Can anyone help me interpret this?
I am not good with some of the cycle terms. My bacground. I got said injection on CD 12 in Sept and "AF" (if it was that) came on CD 30 but never saw a positive OPK from CD 9-19 Got said injection again on CD 10 this month. Using CBE monitor this month and still in low fertilly. I'm trying to interpret this abstract as it would apply to what stage I was in when I got my injection since they were both on similar days of my cycle. Thanks for any feedback. Just wondering when I might expect normal again.
We have studied 20 cycles in normal women given 40 mg triamcinolone acetonide (TA) on day 1-4 (early follicular stage; 5 cycles), on day 11-14 (preovulatory stage; 5 cycles) and on day 15-18 (early luteal stage; 10 cycles) to investigate antiovulatory mechanism of TA. Blood was taken in each l-4 days during the treated and control cycles, and were determined for LH. FSH, estradiol and progesterone by radioimmunoassay. Early follicular TA injection caused loss of the midcycle estradiol and gonadotropin surge, suppression of plasma progesterone during the treated luteal phase, inhibition of ovulation in the succeeding menstrual cycle and shortening of the treated and the succeeding menstrual cycles. Preovulatory TA injection did not block the ovulation in the treated cycle in all five women ; however, this treatment caused inhibition of ovulation in the succeeding cycle in 4 of 5 women. Early luteal TA injection caused slight decrease of plasma LH in the treated luteal phase; however, this treatment did not suppress plasma progesterone. In the succeeding menstrual cycle ovulation was not observed in all ten women by this treatment. The influence of TA injection exhibits a remarkable cyclic change and the maximal influence of this treatment appears to occur in the early follicular stage, especially at the onset of menstruation. These results infer that TA may affect the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal system and consequently may induce suppression of follicular development, inhibition of ovulation and immature luteiniza-tion. Investigations into manipulation of follicular development and menstruation by TA may provide important clues about these mechanisms in women.

It sounds like this will prevent ovulation and thats why you aren't getting a +OPK. Is this a type of birth control? Why are you using this injection?
ETA- I just read it again and it seems like the cycle after you get the injection you won't ovulate so 2 cycles after you get the injection you should ovulate again

Re: Can anyone help me interpret this?
It's not birth control, they are for severe pain I've been having in my back. I had surgery in APril and it didn't resolve everything. Thanks for reading it. I guess I just couldn't figure why I didn't ovulate last month so now I'm thinking it may be January before I ovulate except I did have "AF" unless it was just bleeding. It wasn't a normal AF though so I guess that probably wasn't really it.

From what I can read - it's preventing ovulation but you are still producing progesterone so you will menstruate.
It doesn't seem definite in regards to how long the effects will last, looks like it had different results with women.

I agree... the progesterone level is what triggers AF, which can happen even without ovulation. When you O naturally, your progesterone will rise, if no pg then you get AF. The way I'm interpreting this (and I've had a few cocktails) is if you're getting the shot right before O or in the few days before O, it may not effect O that first cycle but will most likely prevent it in the following cycle. I hope I'm making sense LOL. Good luck...sorry about your back pain, that s*ucks.

Re: Can anyone help me interpret this?
Thanks so much girls. I was trying to figure out why I was getting AF and you cleared that up for me. I really appreciate. I guess I'll keep testing just in case but I need to be realistic though and it will probably be a couple of months at least before I O again.
