Can anyone help me regarding a nurse for my elderly grandma?
She says she isn't covered to have a nurse at the house to stay with her. I will check on that but in the meantime is there a co. Or something we can hire to stay with her a few hours...5 or so with her per day, she lives with my uncle but he HAS to go to work, no choice at all. Thank you so much.

Contact your local college that has a nursing program or look in your local penny saver for elder care....Where are you located?

I wonder if you can reach out to a local nursing home...they may be able to recc a great company and some nurses may do per diem care, too.

do you need a nurse or do you need a home health aide??? A home health aide will shower people and cook for them and things like that but they are not allowed to administer meds. My dad had home health aides for my grandparents. Every week, my dad would make their medicines and the home health aide would "remind" them to take their meds, but not actually give it to them.

Then I would suggest a home health aide. . . They are cheaper than a full time nurse and some are awesome! My parents had an agency that they used for my grandparents. I will ask my dad tomorrow!

private pay aids:
The Polish Connection (631) 901-3474 All Metro Health Care: 473-1200 Assistance for Daily Living: 724-6157 Best Care Inc.: 666-2888 Home Companions of NY: 473-0700
these are for aids. i am an RN, and i doubt that you need an RN to come into the home. Let me know if you need a more extensive list, i have a complete list of resources, including people you can talk to regarding medicaid. FM me if you need it

I work for one of the home care agencies mentioned on the list! I agree it sounds like she just needs an aide.

We hired Senior Helpers for my Grandpa a few years ago. He lives in Nassau but the lady was great!

Re: Can anyone help me regarding a nurse for my elderly grandma?
try contacting the visiting nurse service of NY. they can put you intouch with a service.
my grandma had a home attendant come for a few hours a day. her dr. put the paperwork through to the agency. so maybe talk to your grandma's primary care dr. it didnt work out for us b/c the people they kept sending were not good in speaking english, late all the time, and just not experienced.
i hope it works out for you!

Re: Can anyone help me regarding a nurse for my elderly grandma?
There is an online service called Sitter City. They have Eldercare Sitters. We got a couple of HHA for my MIL from there. They will do background checks for you. One girl we got we had with us for almost 1 year and she was wonderful. When we needed Round the clock care we got another girl who we only had a short while until my MIL passed away. Both girls were wonderful. You can set up interviews and pick who you think are a best fit.
