Re: Can anyone rec their body detox/cleansing program?
I'm not a physician, merely a biochemist, but I wouldn't do something like that... I know its supposed to provide instantaneous results, but most 'detox' protocols are rather stressful to a system, and mimick a state of starvation for a week or so...
my advice would be just to eat much more veggies and fruits, drink a lot of water, and avoid pre-packaged foods with their preservatives, over-processed ingredients, and artificial sweeteners.... it's not a quick fix, but it is by far the healthiest way to go

I don't know anything about this but have always wondered why people do it. Do our bodies not detox themselves?Does it make you feel THAT much better?

I'm not a physician, merely a biochemist,.... "Merely"?! Hey now! The research you do makes it possible for doctors to prescribe drugs and treat their patients. You're not "merely" anything!

Your body doesn't need to be detoxed... unless you need to go to rehab.
You'll get the same (much healthier results) from a 24-hour fast + a high fiber diet... or even just the high fiber diet.
The best "detox" is a healthy diet.

thanks... I always say that disclaimer becuase I only took 1 or 2 med school classes.... not all of them, so my opinion is based on partial medical knowledge, physiology/pharmacology knowledge, with a healthy dose of common knowledge....
As for the post form Kara, I also have heard that a one day fast doesn't hurt.... too short of a period of time to do much damage

Well, i'm not a doctor or a biochemist. Heck I have no connection to the medical or physiology field at all. But when I want to "cleanse" my system, I stop eating packaged food. I read in some diet book that the healthiest food for you doesn't have a bar code (fruits, veggies, etc...).
I would eat organic fruits and vegetables, grains, beans and nuts in thier purest forms. Basically anything that comes from nature without much processing. Make sure its a well balanced diet (proteins, carbs, fiber, etc...)
ETA: Oh and LOTS OF WATER! I try to drink 64oz a day when cleansing.

Exactly... but it makes people think they're doing something.
Seriously, though - eat healthy, whole foods and a high fiber diet. That's the best detox you can get - everyday.
