can anyone reccomend any books/magazines for design ideas
We are in the middle, of our construction project, and i was wondering if anyone has any ideas for design, I really need pictures to see what i like/dislike.
We hired an interior designer, and we are designing the lighting concept right now. and i have to start picking out fixtures and pendants, sconces, chandeliers etc its all so overwhelming
but i really just wanted to see pictures of homes that are finished so i can really show her what my style is.
any help is appreciated

What style do you like-traditional-contemp-transitional? you can go to a book store and just go thru all the magazines like veranda, tradtional home country living and get an idea of what you like. I just redid my entire home and what I did is I got a folder for each room-then I went thru a TON of magazines and ripped out every detail of what I liked-for my kitchen, I have millions of pics of cabinets, sinks , faucets, lighting etc that I liked.( i literally became obsessed with each detail!) I wouldnt do lighting for your entire house first- how do you know the lights you pick out now will go w/the dining room furniture? I would do it room by room. Also sites like HGTV, getdecorating(a site you have to pay $15 a month but totaly worth it imo) and gardenweb.com have so many pictures you can print out! Good luck!

Christopher Lowell has some great books. My favorite is 7 Layers of Design.
As for magazines, you might want to check out some of these for ideas (I believe all have websites as well). They represent a wide range of styles IMO: -Architectural Digest -Elle Decor -Metropolitan Home -Domino -Coastal Living -Southern Living -House & Garden

Pottery Barn has books that I love-it has to be your style. On HGTV Divine Design is awesome-she does really cool contemporary but warm design-you can access this from HGTV.com
You can also check out ratemyspace.com which are "regular people" who do projects
If you go to Borders they have a huige magazine section for example Coastal living, Better Homes and Gardens, etc.

I agree with the recommendation that you just go to a large book store and find mag's that match your style.....
we love mod stuff, and read dwell mag..... Also apartmenttherapy.com..... but if you prefer more traditional stuff, those resources would be useless for you

I like pretty much all that have been mentioned... plus Cottage Living! Try to tivo Devine Design with Candice Olsen on HGTV. I love her designs too!
Good luck!
