Can anyone recommend a French Restuarant?
My DH loved the food in France while traveling on business and I would love to find an authentic place to take him for his birthday. I have never been to a French Restaurant so I am not even sure where to look.
TIA

If you're willing to travel to NYC, I'd recommend 26 seats down in alphabet city. Food is completely authentic and absolutely delicious.

Le Soir in Bayport. And I'm pretty sure they're participating in restaurant week.

There's a place on N. Blvd in Little Neck. I can't remember the name of it but it's on the block just past the second light east of Little Neck Pkwy on the left. It was really fantastic.

There's also La Marmite in Williston Park. I've never been but I've heard good things and they're participating in restaurant week

Daniel Bouluds restaurants are very good. They very in price. Bar Boulud DBGB Cafe Boulud Daniel DB Bistro Moderne
Les Halles (Anthony Bourdains restaurants - 2 locations) are very good and are reasonably priced.
Artisinal is very good. Amazing cheese.
Bistro Citron in roslyn.
There are many more, but these are the ones I have been to and enjoyed.

Re: Can anyone recommend a French Restuarant?
If you really want authentic french, i would beg you to go to this place:
http://www.cheznapoleon.com/
I have been to all the fancy restaurants and tons of french places. I love french food and this is as authentic as you can get. It's very tiny and cozy. They only have seating for a few people at a time, so you do need a reservation.
I used to work across the street from there, and for many years lived down the block from there. been there a number of times and it was a fave of mine, and of many people that I worked with.
super romantic. i also went for my bday 2 years ago.
ETA--i have had a craving to go back recently even though I'm in CT now, and I just looked at the menu again and now really dying to go back! You have to try a souffle for dessert. everything there is so delicious :)

Re: Can anyone recommend a French Restuarant?
in NYC if you don't want to break the bank (and with french food there is no need) I would go to Les Halles.
Parigot is also in NYC and it is a personal favorite of mine.
too bad le Cote Basque (nee Brassiere LCB) closed...insanely good.
Le Bonne Soupe is Ok. I;ve been a few times, some good and some just ok.
there is a place in brooklyn on Court Street that is great, Bar Tabac- not that far from BAM if you wanted a nice date night.
but me and my BFF (who was born in Paris and her dad is in the french restaurant world..she has eaten in all) we go to les Halles. it's good enough that her snobby *** enjoys it, and cheap enough that we can eat and EACH have a bottle of wine while we talk and talk and talk.
John Street to me is the better location, but I have been to both.
and also, good french food is not hard to recreate at home either.

Re: Can anyone recommend a French Restuarant?
I don't like either las Halles. They are dirty. I used to work by the one in midtown and my old boss got sick and the John St one is no better.
ETA-I do like LaMarmite and Mirabella on LI
