An RD or a nutritionist can help with diet planning. As for credentials an RD only needs a BS degree and must take an exam. The title nutritionist is generally used by a person with a MS or PhD in nutrition or clinical nutrition although a licencing exam is not required. There is a certification board for Clinical nutrition specialists it requires completion of a MS or PhD and then you can sit for the exam. A person with this certification often uses the abbreviation CNS (Clinical nutrition specialist, http://cbns.org/ ) after their name. They are actually more highly qualified then an RD. Steer clear of people calling themselves a nutritionist with out schooling/training.

My friend lives in Dix Hills and loooves her nutritionist. She is on medication that makes her gain weight, has a thyroid condition ontop of that, as well as diabetes.
She feels her nutritionist has good knowledge on her unique issues and has been phenomenal - do you want me to get her name?
