Can I buy the next car seat, but leave my baby rear facing?
My Daughter is 9 months old and is almost 20 pounds. To carry her in her car seat is way too heavy.
Can I buy the next car seat and leave her rear facing? If so, when do I turn it around?
Thanks

i bought the convertible it is both rear and forward facing, just install it rear facing for now, as far as when to turn it the recommendation is now 2 years old but you will get many responses on that one

britax makes fabulous seats with great safety ratings. you can even tether them rear facing.

Re: Can I buy the next car seat, but leave my baby rear facing?
DD is only 5 1/2 months, but I already bought a convertible car seat for her (I got a great deal on a Graco MyRide 65). It's rear facing to 40 lbs and forward-facing until 65 lbs. I think I could've had her in it as small as 8 lbs or something (but she's 16 now so that doesn't matter). I'm probably not going to move her into it until after a wedding we're going to in Boston in September since we'd love to be able to travel with her in the infant seat and snap n go still.
I never carry DD in the car seat anymore without the snap n go. It's just too heavy!
So you can definitely get the next seat! Just keep her rear-facing for a while (talk to your ped about what they suggest -- mine goes with the new recc and says 2 years +).

Of course. I switched my DD at about 7 months to the convertible seat but still kept her rear facing until about 14 months.

I spoke to Chris (nassau county car seat installer) he highly recommends the Graco MyRide 65. that's what I'm going to get and my daughter will get one for her car too.

I've heard this as well. We have the Britax Boulevard CS for my car (it's the best as far as safety ratings go I believe), and we just got the Graco MyRide 65 for DH's car.

Absolutely! We switched Loey into the convertible carseat at 6 months old (britax marathon and boulevard are the ones we have in our cars) and he's still rear-facing now at 18 months.

Yes defiently, I switched dd to the britax boulevard when she was 7 months, I couldn't carry her in the seat anymore. Convertibles can be installed both read and foward facing.

Re: Can I buy the next car seat, but leave my baby rear facing?
we put DS in the convertible seat rear facing at 7 months old. he was getting way heavy for me to carry in the infant carrier at 20lbs.
we have the Graco My Ride 65 in brown. its a pretty comfy seat. Our fire dept installed it for us and said it was comprable to the britax ones that people spend $$$ on.
We just turned him forward facing at 20months old.

Re: Can I buy the next car seat, but leave my baby rear facing?
DS is 15 months old and still rear facing in his convertible seat. We plan on following the new recommendation (rear facing until 2 years old). We have the Britax Marathon but another cost effective alternative that I've heard great things about is the Graco MyRide 65.
