can i complain about my job?? (NYC Board of ED)
i am school psychologist for the nyc board of ed... last year was my first year and I was placed in 2 schools... since I was new I didn't have the right to keep those schools for the next year and someone with more seniority than me took them. This year (in September) they placed me in two other schools, but it is a sabbatical position and the person is coming back so basically I am stuck without schools again. I will have a job but it can be anywhere in my region which encompasses southern queens including the rockaways, east new york, and bushwick Brooklyn. Right now I work in Richmond HIll and Woodhaven and it takes me sometimes 45 minutes to get there from Bayside.
I can either take my chances and have them place me anywhere there is an opening in the region or I have to go online, see the vacancies in the city and apply online. Then if a principal selects me I have to go on an interview before getting chosen. I think it is stupid that I have to interview when I'm not the one who is looking to change positions... I understand interviewing if you want to change, but this is ridiculous.
Then on top of all this today, the assistant chairperson has been hunting me down looking for some stupid paperwork that she can't wait until tomorrow to get.
I really am hating my job and since I'm home, I have been applying everywhere else, except getting a school psych job in LI is like winning lotto. I'm so miserable....I hate the bureaucracy of the board of ed.
Vent over...at least until DH gets home and I start all over again.

Re: can i complain about my job?? (NYC Board of ED)
I can relate about DOE woes- I was a literacy coach this year (but taught a class) and will only teach next year. Turns out, because of budget issues and switching back to teaching, my school had to declare a vacancy, and I have to re-apply for my job through the web site! I tried to do it today and it was such a PITA!
Anyway, have you looked in the Bronx? When I lived in Whitestone my commute was about 20 minutes most mornings. Granted, there's the bridge, but traffic wasn't too horrible. And I had to go all the way over by Yankee Stadium.

Now that I can switch districts, I am willing to go pretty much anywhere that is within reason. But right now there are no jobs posted...only a district 75 position in a middle school...no thanks!

Don't you get a preference sheet to see what's available and where you want to go? I'm in regoin 4 in Queens too, and I have no idea why Bushwick is part of our region.

I work in Bushwick and it's actually very close to Queens -- about 5 minutes from Ridgewood.
