Can I eat balsamic vinegar and croutons??
Im in my 1st trimester. I think I can, but Im sitting here with both of these in front of me and just wanted to double check. Thanks!

I've eaten them the entire pregnancy. My doctor never said that I couldn't. Not sure how your doc feels about it though.

Because Im not exactly sure whats in balsamic vinegar and I know there are some weird things that arent necessarily good to eat. Like if balsamic vinegar is very salty...I wouldnt want to have it because I would like to limit my salt intake. And because in the "what to expect when you're expecting" book I remember reading that croutons werent a good choice....but I think that was more related to them being not healthy, but not harmful either....just not a great choice.

I agree that its very hard to follow that exactly, but since I have pretty bad eating habits in general, it is actually helpful to me. I also have a kidney disease which causes me to have to be extra careful of salt intake during pregnancy. If it were up to me...I would eat like one vegetable a month, if that...which is definately not a good idea. Also, I would never have thought to not eat certain cheeses, which my doctor said I shouldnt so I just wanted to make sure those two foods didnt have some kind of rule like that.

If this is the case, then I think you really should ask your doctor about this, and not a bunch of women on the internet!  Please don't take this the wrong way, but you didn't tell us initially about your kidney disease - I think that if you have something like that, all questions should be filtered first by your doctor!

Of course I would ask my doctor. Because of the disease its basically just that I have to make sure that my blood pressure doesnt go up--which would be similar for all people who are pregnant anyway. If its not terrible for anyone else, then it isnt terrible for me. I would think that all pregnant women would not go too crazy on salt....thats why I asked. I really just wanted to know if there was some crazy pregnancy rule about the balsamic vinegar like there is with some other stuff. Not really sure why it was such a weird question for some people.
ETA: I actually didnt even think about the sodium until someone else posted it, I was more concerned about some possible weird pregnancy rule.

Well - I know that croutons have a lot of salt in them - I know when I eat them I get so thirsty, and they just taste salty to me - so I'm going to guess they have high sodium...

And actually the box and bottle should list the exact amount of sodium.....
And stay away from "What to Expect...." it's a bunch of alarmist bullsh!t anyway.....

Yeah, thats probably why I remember reading that they were bad. Thanks! (But I ate them--there were only a few)
ETA: there were only like 5 small croutons..so Im not too worried about them and I looked it up before and balsamic vinegar is actually a low-sodium choice....thats why I ate them anyway.

Not sure about the salt in vinegar but maybe get plain croutons with no seasoning? But like the other girls have mentioned, if you are in doubt, ask your doctor.

Thanks. I bought them from a deli though so they were pre-made. I guess it was OK for once in awhile, but I probably shouldnt have it too often. Ill ask the Dr on Friday.

I had balsamic and croutons in my salad tonight. I think it's all about moderations.
Not like "do you want some lettuce with your croutons?" but more like "do you want some croutons with your lettuce?" AND it is NOT swimming in Balsamic vinegar either.
