Can I go back to renting!?

Someone please tell me that it gets easier.

Yesterday all of my smoke detectors went off - for at least an hour. I had no idea why!!!!! SCREAMING loud. Tried killing circuit breakers, etc. Finally got a call back from an electrician who walked me through turning them off. I would have married him. Legit married him. Screw my husband. Which brings me to below.....

This morning hubby sets off alarm on his way to work. Alarm company had the wrong phone number for my house so I was awoken by police officers in my house. At least one was hot, as I stood there in braless in my concert tee and mickey mouse shorts.

It gets better, right?! (Even if it doesn't, please appease me.....)

Oh, no! LOL. That's terrible.

It DOES get better, though! I am not just saying that because I am the person who helped you buy the house, either!

I remember when I bought my house (pre-real estate days), I felt like the house was so cold and drafty -- it was January -- after years of living in city apartments. My DS was like 5 weeks old, and I felt like I was sitting in some stranger's cold house, thinking "what have I done?" I actually said to my mom, tearily, that I thought we had made a mistake by buying the house. And my mom said "everyone feels that way." Then, our washing machine broke and we had some other glitches.

But we settled in and it grew to feel like home. We are so happy here, and I can't imagine living anywhere else. It was definitely the right decision to buy.

I think everyone goes through that adjustment period of settling in and getting used to their new home, and being a homeowner, period.

Hopefully, this is the last of your glitches/mishaps. It's a GORGEOUS home... it's just that homes are always a constant work in progress. But the good definitely outweighs the bad. Hang in there!

lol sorry that happened. I have been feeling the same way lately. Especially when expensive repairs come up... like for us most recently our central ac system broke and we have to get the entire thing replaced...thousands of dollars, ugh.... Sometimes i wonder how much easier it would be to call a maintenance company when something breaks!

In my experience, I don't know that it got easier, but it got better. The longer we are in our house, the less it seems like someone else's fault when something goes wrong. Also, there are fewer surprises. Hang in there. Chat Icon Chat Icon

We've been in our home for just a year, and I mention to DH at least twice a week that I'm ready to sell our current home and move. You're not alone.

I agree. We are doing renovations right now and it's not as bad as I expected.

We are also taking our time too because of DH schedule since he is doing the work himself Chat Icon

Honestly, what gets me riled up more is cost of basic services to just LIVE here....especially when you get a random high bill out of nowhere.

And I know we don't NEED it but cable....Chat Icon

Owning a house is a lot of work. I feel that the list of to dos is always long. Once you're done updating or fixing something, something else pops up. But I really love having a house that I can do whatever with.

Ugh you are scaring me. We should be closing on our first house soon. I'm not worried so much about projects/renovations, all in good time there is nothing to be done asap, but I do worry about things breaking, etc.

Can I go back to renting!?

I'm in my house just a month so far. The first 2 weeks I missed my apartment. I was miserable there too, no room, 2 dogs, new baby. But,that was home. I'm just starting to feel settled in here but all I see is my laundry, list of must do repairs, I feel like I will never get to relax

Re: Can I go back to renting!?

I'm not sure if it gets better or if you just get used to it. There always seems to be something that comes up.

One of the things that REALLY helped us when we bought out house was it "came with" a home warranty. We actually ended up extending it another year because everything seemed to crap out in the first year.Chat Icon I think I have a few posts on here from back then about it!
