Can I really teach myself how to Knit?

My daughter needs 24 hour care and i really cant leave the house, but I will be getting 8 hours a day of nursing help, can i realistically teach myself how to knit? Is there like an online "how to" site?

Re: Can I really teach myself how to Knit?

I know how to crochet, and I tried to teach myself how to knit but was basically unsuccessful. (I figured out the basic stitch and that was it).

I have no idea whether or not you could do it, but IMO, crocheting is easier and you could definitely teach yourself how to do that.

Re: Can I really teach myself how to Knit?

i taught myself to knit... and this was back in the stone age before youtube lol

there are basically 2 stitches in knitting (knit stitch, purl stitch)
there are basically 3 movements in knitting (insert needle, wrap yarn around needle, pull yarn through)

after that, it's all gravy.

where do you live? can you have someone come over an teach you?

dancinbarefoot, i agree, crochet is easier... because i learned it first, too.
but once i got the hang of knitting, I LOVE IT. i only crochet blankets or doilies, now.

fm me if you have questions

Re: Can I really teach myself how to Knit?

My mother taught me basic knit and purl at age 5 I didn't touch it again till 19 and occasionally get bored and knit a scarf. It was like riding a bike to me.

Crochet, though, I tried to teach myself, I learned one stitch and quit. Its possible to learn something like this yourself but it takes some determination and focus.

I want to start again!

There's a website called knittingpatterncentral.com . It shows all the different pictures of the stiches, move by move, and also offers tips and patterns. If you are left handed, there's instructions and pictures for that too.

I taught myself to crochet and am about to try knitting after a quick lesson from grandma. It can be done!

Same for me. My grandmother and mom taught me at a very early age. I can knit anything anytime.

Crochet. I can only do basic stitch.

I think it's easier to learn to knit with someone.

i was inspired after i read this and found a ton of ideos and such on you tube and all sorts of websites. For someone who never knitted anything, i thought i picked it up pretty well. I have not had as much time as I would like to put aside to kint recently, but things should calm down for me and I will try to pos my finished products. Chat Icon good luck!

I think you can, yes! Especially with the help of youtube. They show you step by step moves.

I personally couldnt. I bought the supplies and tried for over a year, picking it up here and there. I could NOT get it even with youtube and online tutorials.

My mom suddenly remembered how to knit and she showed me ONE day and I am halfway through a scarf. Maybe someone can come over for a day and just show you - after that, everything else makes sense!

There is a great knitting site my mom just referred me to, after I was asking her a million questions..
