Re: can i share?

LB that was absolutely beautiful. What an amazing memory your grandfather has had for a lifetime. WOW. I am floored. And he wrote about it so beautifully.Chat Icon

There certainly aren't heroes like that in the game anymore...Lou was the class act to end all class acts.

When trying to come up with baby boy names, DH and I had thought of naming him Gehrig, but my only worry is that the name is associated with such a tragic disease, and one that took my grandfather's life (I never knew him, actually).

And your grandfather had a good point- in those days, people just loved the game, they didn't become avid supporters of one team. They loved baseball and baseball players in general. Sad that that mentality just doesn't exist anymore.

Beautiful job, grandpa! Chat Icon Thanks for sharing LB! Chat Icon

tara if you have a boy next, i totally think that gehrig is a great name. i honestly believe that people think of the baseball player first, the man second, and the disease third. Chat Icon

You're probably right. But here's my other issue with it: Curt Schilling named his boy Gehrig. And I honestly cannot think of any ballplayer I despise more than Schilling.Chat Icon I know, awful reason. But the thought of Schilling and his friggin' big mouth make me boil. Chat Icon

But naming a Chat Icon Gehrig would have soooo much meaning to us. We even have a framed picture of Gehrig giving his speech, and the words inscribed below.

Well who knows, maybe the debate will come up again with baby #2. Chat Icon
