Re: Can I turn around the carseat yet?

I probably will turn mine at 1 yr old because she is so long but the car seat installer safety guy said he recommends waiting till they are 15 months if you can - his reasoning being that it's easier to repair broken legs than a neck injury.

Re: Can I turn around the carseat yet?

I am actually waiting to ask her pediatrician.

She doesn't mind being rear facing - so I would like to leave her that way as long as I can.

DD is going to be one next week and she weighs 20 lbs so I am going to ask the ped when we go for her well visit.

I have heard many ped's recommed waiting as long as possible though even though they are at the criteria for front facing..

If they don't mind being backwards, it is safest and I would leave it that way.

Lauren is 13 months this week and I am turning her seat around this week because I need to switch cars while mine goes with DH to the shop. As long as I am taking it out, I decided to do it at that time.

We turned Ryan around last month. He's about 23 lbs. and he was way too long. His legs were going way up the back seat.

Re: Can I turn around the carseat yet?

We waited until she was about 14 months even though she was 20lbs at her 1 yr visit, I wasn't in a rush since rear facing is safer.

I would ask your pediatrician. Mine checked neck & muscle development & asked me to wait longer.

The bare minimum legally is both 1 year old and 20lbs... The safest is rear faced as long as possible Chat Icon

It doesn't matter if his feet hit the seat. When do you ever see a kid sit with their legs straight anyway? I'd wait longer, its safer!

DS is 18 1/2 pounds and is still rear facing. I'll ask his doctor this week when he goes for his 12 months checkup about the carseat thing...

Maddy's 16 months and still rear facing. My SIL commented on it and told us her peditrician said its dangerous to leave them rear facing. I think her pedi is not very knowledgeable.
In February, I got into an accident with Maddy in the car. the EMS guys said it safest to leave them rear facing for as long as possible.

Re: Can I turn around the carseat yet?

In not turning my son until I absolutely have to. It's been discussed here a lot but they are so much safer rear facing for as long as possible.

Re: Can I turn around the carseat yet?

You could if you want, but he is still the safest rear facing.

I plan on leaving Gianna rear facing til she reaches the max weight for rear facing for her carseat. I have a Marathon and it's 30-33lbs.

She doesn't complain or seem uncomfy yet.

Re: Can I turn around the carseat yet?

I turned DS around when was 20lbs and 1 year as per my peds recommendation. He said that the same reason we keep them rear facing for that certain amount of time is the same reason to turn them around. He said that when they reach that criteria the vortex or something changes in the event of an accident. I would ask your ped, I trust mine so I listened to him.

After seeing this video, I'm in no rush to turn my daughter's carseat to face forward. Check it out - It's so much safer to remain rear-facing as long as possible.

The feet hitting the seat is not a big deal. It'as okay to turn him if you want to but it is safest to be rear facing to the limits of the seat. Here's a link. It's a little long but it explains why and the site is great too.
