Can someone educate me on LI real estate prices?

We are not looking to move anytime soon, but just trying to get educated and see how LI real estate compares to NJ.

Anyone know like what the following goes for:

2BR condo in Great Neck

Townhouse on the North Shore

Houses/Townhomes near Nassau/Suffolk Border

Thanks!

From what Ive seen on LI there are not as many condos as NJ........there are however co ops in Great Neck near the train station that i believe are priced in the 300's last i heard about town homes in Oceanside they were in the 600 range with very high taxes

hey Randi -

The condos and coops in Great Neck are less expensive than a townhouse. At least the ones I have seen.

The townhouses that I looked at were actually more than houses that I looked at and the taxes were really high too.

Great Neck Co-op

Townhouse in Manhasset - North Shore

Plainview Townhouse - Nassau/Suffolk Border

These are just a sampling!

When you say North Shore- are you talking about North Shore of Nassau?

Thanks Christine... we are trying to figure out what the hell we want to do... I just wish it didn't cost so much to live close to our parents. Great Neck seems like a good option-- we don't mind apt living, and I feel like we can get a 2BR bigger than what we have now, for a lot less money.

When I say North Shore, I mean Nassau, or close to the Nassau/Suffolk border.

Are you opposed to buying a co-op instead of a condo? Co-ops are generally much less expensive than condos.

Aren't co ops a PITA? I live in a condo now-- I mean, we are open to anything. Again-- not looking to move anytime soon unless something crazy happens with the market. I am thinking the absolute earliest would be like 8 months to a year from now.

I have never lived in one, but from what I hear from my friends, it just really depends on the co-op board and how strict they are.

Great Neck is really nice - and the commute is great. I used to take the Port Washington line when I lived in Bayside. The ride is really short to NYC.

I used to live in GN and i have a few friends who still live there, almost all the apts there are co-ops, very few condos... the condos are way more $$$...
Depending on the apt, a 2 BR in GN, walking distance to the train is probably not less than 400 or 500k for a decent one...
