Can someone explain to me carseats and strollers...
I have Baby Bargains, but it seems like a pain to get a stroller that I will have to put my car seat in--right?
What are you registering for in terms of strollers and carseats, for newborn and older?

Re: Can someone explain to me carseats and strollers...
You want a stroller that will take a car seat. How ever yo dont want to buy those things that only take a car seat.
You want to first choose the stroller that you like, just about every stroller out there has the option of adapters and will take a car seat after the adapters are placed.
After you choose your stroller, see what options of adpaters there are and choose your car seat from that.
Most strollers will have adapters for Graco Snugride, MaxiCosi Mico or Peg perego primo viaggio.
The only reason why I do not suggest the snap n go things is because you only get limited use from them until your child outgrows the car seat or until it is to heavy for you to lift the car seat with the child onto the snap n go. Also, you can get a stroller that takes a car seat and lats you until the child is done with strollers.
keep in mind that you will have to buy an additional car seat after your child is done with the infant car seat unless you choose to get a convertable from the start. But convertables are not as convinient because you can not snap them onto a stroller.

Re: Can someone explain to me carseats and strollers...
Thank you! Very helpful. So a stroller that says it accepts (for example) Graco SnugRide Infant Car Seat and Infant SafeSeat Car also seats the baby without those seats in it? that's what I wasn't clear about.

Pick the stoller you like - regardless of adapters and such - IMO, it's easy to buy the $60 snap n go if you dn't want to deal w/ the adapters .......
We got a Bugaboo, so I got the adapter for the Graco Infant seat - For all that $$$, I'm getting use out of those wheels !!

Re: Can someone explain to me carseats and strollers...
I would change the order of Malishka31 slightly. Since the car seat is a safety item, and the stroller is a convenience, I would chose the car seat that you feel is the best you can buy. Then, find a stroller that it will snap into. Since most car seats fit in most strollers, it's not a big difference, and you'll probably wind up with the same ones either way, but I'm big into safety, so that's why I would go in that order.

Re: Can someone explain to me carseats and strollers...
I did not get a snap and go but I know alot of people love them
I wound up with a Metrolite stroller, the carseat snaps right into it but it is also a regular stroller

exactly, a stroller like the metrolite, you can snap the carseat into it or just put the baby right into the stroller (when they get a bit older)

Ohh I do agree with this too but a lot of people dont like the safest car seats on the market that is why i said get the stroller of your liking because the majority will take the Graco car seat which is what most people prefer.
I use the Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 and it is heavy and a lot of people do not like but it tested very high.

Re: Can someone explain to me carseats and strollers...
I registered for the snap and go and someone is giving me the stroller for it. I agree they only cost $60.00 and they snap right in so I think it is worth the investment. Some of the strollers just have a strap that attaches the carseat to the stroller (unless you get the travel system).
I registered for the Pilko P3 and an umbrella stroller (uppa baby g-luxe). I thiink the best thing to do is go to Buy Buy Baby, they seem to have the biggest selection of strollers and test them out and see which one you like the best. The salespeople, at least the ones I have dealt with have been very helpful. This is how I ended up picking my stroller.

Re: Can someone explain to me carseats and strollers...
I love the snap n go. It's really easy to use and perfect for trips to the mall, walks around the neighborhood, etc. I have the Graco Snugride carseat, which was highly rated and pretty light.
Although I haven't used these yet, I registered for the Britax Marathon carseat, Peg Perego Pliko P3 stroller, and the Maclaren Quest Sport stroller. I didn't like the bulkiness of the travel systems. These strollers were light and seemed good for different purposes/ages.

Re: Can someone explain to me carseats and strollers...
When I was pg, I was in a third floor walkup and I wanted the lightest strollers possible, since I knew I would have to carry them up and down the stairs at least occasionally.
I got a graco infant seat and the frame it snaps into. I loved this stoller so much - I wish I could still use it. It was so easy to fold and unfold and handled really well. I used that until the baby outgrew the infant seat.
Once he outgrew the infant seat, I started using my Peg perego Pliko 3. I didn't want a bulky travel system and don't regret not getting one.

Re: Can someone explain to me carseats and strollers...
Some strollers will take a carseat directly onto the chassis (like the Bugaboo) and with others - like most Gracos - the car seat snaps into the seat unit.
Be careful, though, some strollers are not suitable from birth on their own - the manufacturers will count using the carseat (or an optional carrycot which is usually another bit to buy) as 'from birth'. If you want the seat unit to be usable from birth, you need to find something that will lie flat

Re: Can someone explain to me carseats and strollers...
you can snap a viaggio on the P3 or on the Pliko Lite.
Viaggio is heavier but the SIP one that goes up to 30 pounds 30 inches should last you longer and is better tested due to the SIP .
Also it depends where you will use the stroller.
I highly recommend one with large tires because there is snow here. Additionally if you own your house and mainly go from house to car to around the block a few times your needs will not be the same as someone who lives in the city or in brooklyn or whatever, and doesnt drive and mainly walks everywhere.

I loved the snap and go because it was light and easy to handle. we also had a metrolite that the car seat would have fit on, but it was so much heavier and bulkier that we only used it once she got older.

I registered for the following:
Gracco infant carseat (and frame it snaps into--its like the snap and go, but the gracco version) for baby when he/she is an infant
I registered for the maclaren quest stroller and britax car seat when baby is older

Re: Can someone explain to me carseats and strollers...
I have the Graco Safe Seat and the Snap and Go. It has been a blessing from Day 1. The frame was cheap and it has a nice large basket underneath. He will outgrow the carseat soon and then we'll switch to a convertible carseat and a MaClaren stroller.

Re: Can someone explain to me carseats and strollers...
this might just be me, but i'm registering for a travel system. the thought of having to buy a car seat, a snap & go, then ANOTHER stroller for when the baby is bigger than the infant seat just seems like too much for me. plus those snap & goes seem kinda flimsy to me. i'd rather just have an infant car seat that fits in the stroller so i can just take the car seat out when he's big enough for the regular stroller.

You can turn just about any stroller into a travel system, you dont need to stick to what is marketed as a travel system.
A bugaboo can easily be a travel system too for example even though it is not marketed as such.

Re: Can someone explain to me carseats and strollers...
my problem with a bugaboo, is that if you don't live in the city, and don't walk alot, it's really useless. you're just paying for the name. and strollers like graco and chicco are actually made better than those! however, if you do live in an area where you have to walk alot, it's worth the extra bit of money. i just think it's sooo expensive. I guess i'm a simple girl, i dunno. to the OP, think about your lifestyle and how often you're going to use the stroller, where you're going to use it and then make your decision xo
