Can someone explain TRU point rewards to a dummy?

So I signed up for the rewards card without reading about the benefits. I just received an email to check my account for rewards dollars. This is what I have & I need to know, do these expire & what are these dates on each promotion below? How do you accumulate points? Thanks!

10/28/12 - 12/24/12

Standard Points Promotion
7/1/12 - 10/27/12
$5 "R"Us Rewards
Your remaining points prior to 10/28/12 will be converted to "R"Us Reward Dollars and sent via email.

I hate this rewards system because you don't get a lump sum. You get coupons in either $5 or $10 increments. Then you can only use 1 coupon between a certain date.

it means you have so far earned $21 this "holiday" period. those $$ will be available after Christmas. They usually are split into 2 sets for example if you end up earning $30 you will be able to use $15 the first half of January and $15 the second half of January.

I dont mind this. I figure rewards are better than no rewards.

The other thing is that since this promotion (the earning 10%) started at an odd time they are converting whatever points you had accumulated up that point into reward dollars. I just got an email with $3.
