Can someone help me pls!!
Hey Guys, So I went to the Gyno on Monday and I had all blood work taken cause my cycle is all messed up -I am always always late. So, I got my test results today and my blood came up that I have an underactive Thyroid. I freaked out at first cause I had no idea what this meant as the doctor was telling me. But it seems like the more I talk to my friends at work and my family that this is common. Does anyone know anything about this or also have this?? I have to get more blood work taken next week. Any information would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

I have a couple of friends who have this and they don't complain much about it. I'm sure if you go online to medical websites maybe it will explain it better. I love www.webmd.com I find it to be very helpful.... sorry I'm not much help. Good Luck to you!!!

Its pretty common. My Mom has it. She takes meds for it and she is fine. Google it and you will find a slew of information.

Also, this can be geneticly passed on to your kids so make sure they are aware of your history.
I have to get tested every year since it runs in my family (Mom, Nana, Great Aunt, etc.)

I was checked for this, I don't have it, but they thought I did, I even had to have a sonogram for it. All I know is that you have to be on a pill for the rest of your life and you will be fine. You had no symptoms of it ??

Not being able to lose weight can be a symptom of hypothyroidism. Hopefully that will change once they medicate you. Good luck with everything!

Re: Can someone help me pls!!
I was just diagnosed with this last month. I have similiar symptoms...my periods started to become irregular, I have trouble losing weight, feel "foggy" sometimes and always tired...also I have very very bad dry skin on my hands....
I had 3 blood tests within about 1 week, and all 3 had high levels of TSH, which indicates hypothyroid( underactive)..
The Dr put me on snythyroid...and I have been on for 4 weeks. My last thyroid tests was within the normal ranger. IT takes the med's about 2-6 weeks to work. I feel a lot better energy wise...
You may need to be on the med's for life, but its has no side effects, nothing, just cannot take it around eating...
Also- when you get PG, your baby relies on your thyroid for brain development, so many PG women with hypothyroid need to be watched more carefully and usually increase the synthroid while pregnant to avoid a Misscarriage.....I had a M/C a few years ago and the RE I see thinks the thyroid condition could very well have been the reason why.
Anyway, hope that helps....try to get your #'s from your Dr...your TSH and T3 and T4 levels...knowing where they are may make you feel better, and really this is a very common thing to have. Annoying sure, and possibly harmful when pregnanct or TTC, but otherwise, something VERY controllable!

Re: Can someone help me pls!!
I actually have the opposite problem. Hyperthyroidism. The medication has made me gain weight :( ...oh well, at least it's under control now. You can go into remission as well. Thyroid issues are usually auto-immune disorders. I have loads of websites, if you want to research more about it. Sometimes changing what you eat can help your situation.

Re: Can someone help me pls!!
Thanks everyone! I appreciate all the information. My TSH level was a 7 which the doctor said was high she said normal is a 5. I believe the doctor did mention today the name of the medication that they would put me on was snythyroid. Has this made you loose weight since underactive Thyroid causes trouble to loose? As I said earlier I normally eat pretty well and never could understand why I don't loose! Now I know Glad to know that you have been on the medication and you are feeling a lot better. Thanks again for all your feedback!!

Re: Can someone help me pls!!
I've been having my thyroid meds adjusted for the last year (hypo) and I haven't lost any weight. My doctor said to not count on it, it may happen but it is not definite, but that at least I wouldn't gain more.
