Can someone help me with carpet? Company recc. and time for install
I'm hoping to close soon. We're waiting on a new survey and then hopefully we'll schedule a date. I want to move within a week of closing. The house is pretty much move in ready. We just decided to redo the carpet in 3 bedrooms and paint 2 of them.
I was considering going to Lowes for the carpet, but I'm reading such mixed reviews. Hoping you girls can help.
1) Can you recommend who to use? I'm in the Farmingville area.
2) Should I be going now to pick out carpet? Any particular brand you recommend?
3) How long do you think it will take after I close to get them in to measure and install?

We only had to carpet one room but we went to home depot and were very happy with it. I looked and picked out the carpet before we closed and had an appointment for measuring the day we were able to get into the house. Our carpet was a 7 day turn around but they do have choices for a 3 day turn around. There were only specific carpets I could choose from but unless you were looking for a fancy one, they are fine. If your seller will allow, maybe they could measure before you close.

We originally were going to order from Jim Flack because they were the least expensive, but then Sandy happened and they weren't answering their phones (I guess they got hit hard and were closed for a while). We decided to check out Pat's Carpet (Saxon Avenue in Islip right off Sunrise) and they were less expensive than Jim Flack and had much better selection! We ordered carpet and they gave us so many options for installation - we had some cleaning to do, so we installed 2 weeks later. We're going back to them because we have another baby on the way and we're carpeting his room and redoing the carpet in the playroom!

ooo...I wonder if we're neighbors?! :D One house just sold on our block!
When we bought our house we got our carpets from J. Fried in Westbury. They were fantastic! Beyond fantastic!
Run, do not walk away from Empire.
We also had carpet done from Home Depot once & had a good experience.
We checked out & had in mind the carpet we wanted before closing. I think we wait to order of course once we closed. We still had some work we wanted to do - including painting that we wanted to get done before installing the carpet.
We had a fabulous seller & realtor who let the guys come in & measure before we closed. It helped saved time because we wanted the new carpet in before our furniture was in.

We just used empire and had a great experience. Just make sure you negotiate price. They can install pretty much right away/next day.

We had an awful experience with Empire. Their carpets were garbage quality compared to other places and their installers were BEYOND horrible. They did such a $hit job, I would NEVER, EVER even consider using them again.
When we replaced those Empire carpets we used Carpet Depot, the one in Lake Grove but I believe they are all over the island. They had a beautiful selection, great prices, great installers, and they were able to get to our house within a day or two. I highly recommend them.
