Can someone make me feel better re: exercising and illness?
I've been advised by my doctor not to resume my workout routine for at least 2 more days (which will be 5 days after my stomach bug) due to severe loss of fluids and dehydration. She said I can't get back into any sort of intense workout regime until I have re-hydrated and am eating almost normally again. I know it makes sense because even though the stomach symptoms are on the mend (but not 100% better) I'm still super weak and unable to eat normally, but I hate not working out. I feel like all the hard work I've put in is being undone every day I don't exercise! I walked the dog today for 25 minutes (first time really moving after getting sick Saturday) and went to work today and I have to admit I'm totally beat, but can someone reassure me that when I get back going I won't be redoing the work I've done, if that makes sense, but will only be picking up where I left off? I really hate not being able to work out, but I know my body is telling me it isn't ready.

You will be fine and get back into your routine.
IMO, if you go back when you are not ready, you are just going to make yourself sicker.
Our bodies need rest sometimes which is definitely NOT a bad thing.

Think about it in the grand scheme - what is more important - 5 days now or the other 360 days of the year?
Rest up and take care of yourself!

I have the same thing I was going to post the same question. I feel your pain I want to hear what others say. I doubt that I wil have the motivation to run tomorrow because I will be worshipping the porcelain alter. Me, Dh, dd, ds are all sick. Feel better

Do not stress about the couple of days off, I promise it won't make a difference. If you go back and don't feel up to it, you can make yourself worse! When I had to take off months of running when I got injured, I would seriously cry thinking how I was going to lose my endurance and training but I promise, I came back and felt great. Just take care of yourself and get yourself better so you can give it 100% soon!

I have been sick and not working out going on 2 weeks now...I am getting thru it all by knowing I will get right back into my routine when my body is ready!! It sucks I know...

Re: Can someone make me feel better re: exercising and illness?
I know how you feel! I've been sick with a stomach virus too. I missed 5 days already and I was training for a half marathon. But don't go back until you feel 100%. Like a idiot, I tried going before I was ready and it was the worst workout I've ever gotten. I just could not do it. It's a waste to go back before you're ready, trust me. My body just did not have the strength to get through my run.
And I think you start losing fitness after 1-2 weeks so you'll be fine. Under a week and they say you can start right where you left off. Even after 2 weeks though you'll never have to start from scratch!!!
Feel better! I hate stomach viruses. They are no fun at all.

Wait until you are feeling better to exercise pushing your self too much too soon will only set you back more.
