Can someone please tell me about maternity bras?

I went to Motherhood yesterday to buy some meternity undies and started to look @ some of their bras.

Bras have been a struggle for me- I have had luck with one type from Gap maternity- I am now a D cup

Anyway, the saleslady was showing me bras WITHOUT underwire.

A customer was telling me that she was currently nursing wore those ( non underwire bras) that after you have your baby you are not supposed to wear underwire.

The saleslady also showed bras to sleep in. They looked like flimsy type sports bras.

Does anyone know when we need to start wearing the sleeping bras?

When the best time is to hang up the underwire for a while?

If you plan to breastfeed, underwires are a no-no.

Unfortunatley my D-girls have been without underwire for some time now, it just hurts too much and pushes into the belly.

I just bought a few from Gap, the Medela ones. They're better than the ones I bought from Motherhood.

They'll get the job done.

Re: Can someone please tell me about maternity bras?

I stopped wearing underwire a few months ago. Not for any other reason except, I had to buy bigger bras and figured if I had to buy them, mind as well get ones I could use both before the baby and pp.

Before the baby, I don't think there's any time to start/stop, just a matter of personal preference. Chat Icon

Wow, I never knew this - no underwire if you are nursing? Is this like a NEVER thing or you just shouldn't all the time and what is the reason? Thanks ladies...this board is so informative!

It can dig in "too" much and affect your milk supply.

Re: Can someone please tell me about maternity bras?

I do have one nursing bra with underwire - that I wore to an engagement party after DS and then if all the others were in the wash.

I slept and hung around the house in nursing tanks (from target) and I have a few medelas that I would wear out of the house (they are OK to sleep in too)

Re: Can someone please tell me about maternity bras?

I haven't bought any "sleeping bras" yet. Not sure I'll go there, might just stick with nursing tanks.

Underwires can also be a BIG culprit for plugged ducts and plugged ducts can lead to mastistis-Neither are FUN!

ETA: I wear underwires throughout my whole pg's, my boobs are too heavy for no wires. But I did switch to non underwire when I nursed, I learned they were a no no the hard way.

I wear those sleep bras from motherhood, they are very comfy, they keeps you boobs contained. My boobs are very painful and my nips are sensitive, if they move around alot during the night, they actually wake me up in pain.

I was nice full 34c before my pg's, when i am all said and done I will be at least a 36E in maternity. These things can grow on me!

I have never bought a maternity bra..I got some great Olga bras at Sears...that are super comfortable (DD)..I usually wind up sleeping in a sports bra...I dont see why you need to pay extra for a sleeping maternity bra when you can pick up a pack of 3 cotton sports bras at Walmart for $10.
