Can Someone please tell me the difference.....

between Nassau BOCES Early CHildhood Center and Children's Readiness Center. DD is speech delayed (expressive and receptive) and shows some PDD-NOS signs but doesn't really have OT or Sensory issues, no feeding issues (ie: gagging) and no Motor Skills issues. She doesn't flap, doesn't have noise or crowd issues and we pretty much have no routine in our house since DH & I work opposite schedules so that's not really a problem. She has some verbal stimming, the speech delay & is super stubborn when she wants to be!

We had our CPSE meeting and she qualified for a program but they didn't lock us in to a full or half day program so as to not limit our choices. We are touring Little Village (no full day spots), Variety (also only half day), BCW (no info on what is available) and BOCES CRC in Bellmore. I was just wondering what the difference was between the 2 BOCES locations and is one for kids with lower function? Also for a kid like this any recommendations as to programs?

ECC is a little more high functioning then CRC, but once your child is screened if they arent a fit for either of the schools they will refer you to the other.. so if you get screened at CRC and they feel DD is too high functioning they will recommend you getting screened at ECC.

from what i know LV doesnt have any 1/2 day classes either.

my friend got a spot at BCW, and it really depends on your child. because i know another person who was screened at BCW before the person who got in and is wait listed. so depending on the class size she needs, will depend on if she is accepted right away or wait listed.

Hmmm, I spoke to someone at LV today and she said "we don't have any full day spots available" so not sure why she would have said that instead of saying they are only wait listing. Do you know if the district sends a packet to both BOCES or just one and they work it out from there? I don't really consider her to be "lower functioning" but I guess I am biased (aka delusional???). I had also read on another board that ECC was lower functioning but that CRC deals with autism and uses ABA. She doesn't have a diagnosis. She saw a neurologist last summer and they refused to diagnose her and told me to continue with the therapies she was getting.

the SD usually sends the packet out to the school they feel is best suited for your DD (according to her scores) it has happened but is rare that a child is screened at one school and gets sent to another, but again, it has happened. not every child who goes to CRC is spectrum, and there are some very high functioning spectrum kids at ECC, but my understanding is ECC is more language.

we as parents will always be "delusional" on how well our children are doing.. lol.. i say that, because i am the same way.

while i am excited my DS will maintain home services throughout the summer, in the same sense that means he isnt functioning as well as i thought or think he is. my DS though is spectrum.

my friends DD who is PDD-NOS went to CRC this year and after her annual review they are sending her to ECC (which is a step above CRC)

i hope this is making some sense.. i keep pausing because my kids are all over me
