can someone tell me what an early intervention position entails? especially in NYC

I see a few opening s on the open market system and it says you can do this without having any other certificatoion but the general common branch one so i thought i may look in to it. any ideas?

well... i did EI as a speech therapist one summer ( it was my internship). it was in NJ, but i'm sure it was similar.
EI is done in the child's "natural setting" which means at their home, daycare, preschool, etc.... most of the time it was at the home though. so it involved a lot of traveling around to the different children's homes to do therapy/visit. it also involved working a lot with the parents- one or both of them were usually there during the time. so they would be involved, asking questions, helping out,etc.
i really had a good experience. the kids were such a cute age, and so much of it was stimulating the kids language through playing with them, which was fun. let me know if you have any other questions Chat Icon

I don't know what type of agency it is, but usually, to do EI as a Special Instructor (teacher) you have to have a special ed license and a separate paper from the Department of Health to teach. It has changed a lot over the years and is now a very family centered program!
