Can we discuss music lessons?

Do any of your DC already take lessons or do you plan to start? What age and why?

What instrument?

What's the time commitment for the lessons AND the practicing?

Does your DC like it?

Music lessons are a definite priority for my DH and me, but we are unsure how to proceed. Originally we had though we'd start DD at age 5, but when she turned 5 we were a month away from having a new baby and I didn't think bringing in a piano at that point was wise! Chat Icon So anyway, she'll be 6 next month and wants to take lessons. She's been taking dance for going on four years but doesn't practice at home...I want her to know that it's NOT going to be like that with the piano... I'm so stressed about it because I feel like it's a big undertaking!

Re: Can we discuss music lessons?

I would have loved to start my kids on piano lessons years ago, but getting a piano of our own is not in the works, so there went that idea Chat Icon

Our school starts lessons in 3rd grade. They will both take an instrument and do lessons in school. If I find they are interested and like it, I will look further at that point into private lessons.

I took lessons from 3rd to 8th grade and can play the flute. I own my own flute, but it hasn't been used in many, many years and would need a good tune-up and new pads (which is expensive since we looked into it a few years ago for my niece). I would hope my DD is interested in the flute.

DS - I'll let him decide. My brother has his own trumpet he can borrow, but I'm not sure I want to listen to the trumpet being practiced! And I will say no to drums Chat Icon We've got another year before we need to decide!

I really want to get an upright piano, but I don't know that's going to happen anytime soon.

Band starts in 3rd grade for our district too, so I'll probably wait until then. When I was a kid I took flute lessons for a year, guitar for a few years but preferred singing so was in chorus in high school.

My cousin played the trumpet in high school and my aunt used to tease him all the time that he picked it since trumpet players are supposed to be the best kissers since they have strong lips.
