Can we go to the dentist for a cleaning in 3rd Trimester?
My gums have been bleeding so much, even though I floss everynight, and brush 2-3x a day... I feel like I need a good cleaning... is it safe?

I was told anything can be done by a dentist once in the 2nd and 3rd trimester, its safe..its only the 1st thats a concern..
I had to just have my first root canal..fun!

I'm actually having some work done next week (almost in my 3rd). They say it's fine, I asked my Dr. to use the alternative to novacaine (I think its called carbocaine).

Try an electric toothbrush - like the Oral B - i know i sound like they are paying me for advertising, but it made a huge difference on my teeth and gums - also, when you brush, you usually brush too vigorously which does more harm than good - my gums are horrible because I brushed them too hard for way too long - the oral B totally saved me, because it brushes nice and evenly without wearing at the gums...
I would have had a major problem from this pregnancy... my gums bled all the time until I began using this....

I use a Sonicare electric toothbrush... I still get bleeding... I'm a little nervous cause I was reading in a labor book how one woman couldnt get an epidural because she told the Dr about her gums bleeding and they were afraid her blood wouldnt clot!
Once again... why do I continue to read these freaking books!!

your gums are going to bleed regardless - it affects many pregnant women - especially with the extra blood - but it's fine to go.
