Can we start a Pregnancy Fitness Thread??

I FINALLY got back to the gym today-- I have only worked out like two or three times since getting my BFP.

Since I am starting to feel more like my old self, I am on a mission to resume my regular fitness routine.

I know it will make me feel good, look better and recover quicker after delivery. It's really important for me to keep it up, BUT I need some motivation since it's SO easy to blow it off. I definitely could have gone back sooner-- but I am lazy.

We can post our workouts and exchange prego exercise ideas, etc.

Who is with me??!!!

July 25:
- Chest and Tris
- 30 mins of cardio (careful not to exceed 120/130 HR per my doc)
- Lite abs... I am trying to figure out ab exercises where I am not laying down. I also didn't want to push it on abs since it's been a while.

In the first tri-- you can keep up normal. Once you get out of that though-- you are not supposed to lay on your back and do them. So, you can use the resistance ball, etc.

I'm having a hard time with this myself. I have been walking on the treadmill, dr. also said light weights are ok but not to strain myself.
I want to do prenatal yoga.

I am not doing anything with my abs.

I'm 22 weeks and have only been to the gym maybe 10 times since I got my BFP. I just can't get motivated!

I know each doctor may conflict, but I was told no abs at all-no matter the trimester.

Ditto. I would be too nervous anyway. Aside from that.......what's the point in working those abs?? You're belly is about to go downhill now. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would think that good, strong ab muscles would help in delivery-- as well as just general comfort when you get bigger since the muscles can support more weight.

I spoke to my doc about exercise-- and he never said no abs... I will check again when I am there on Tues though.

I walk on my treadmill 3 times a week. Today I went for a walk pushing my 3 year old in my jogger and almost fainted.Chat Icon

Back to the treadmill for me...Chat Icon

I don't doubt it would help but for me I didn't feel comfortable doing anything with my abs. I was nervous throughout my 1st tri and then after that your whole abdomen just feels bigger and more cramped as time goes on and I was nervous about too much bending over and all that. But that's just me. I would double check with your dr. though. Chances are in the 1st tri it's okay but if I remember correctly from my prego books they don't recommend ab exercises after a certain point. Chat Icon

Re: Can we start a Pregnancy Fitness Thread??

yeah i would love some more suggestions.. walking on the treadmill has gotten boring - when i can i meet with a friend and walk for an hour.. or with DH and dog and night..

i joined a great new gym that offers aqua fitness classes (yes with grandmas) but I LOVE IT!!!Chat Icon less strain on the joints and it goes quick.. i also swim laps..

any other gym time - i go to classes and just tell the instructor im preggo and taking it easy.. strength training classes mostly..

no abs - doc said no and it feels weird doing it..

July 27th:

I didn't work out yesterday-- because we had people over, so I was running around and preparing all day..

But Friday night we walked to dinner-- so, I leisurely walked an additional 3 miles (on top of the gym) in total.

I am going to try to get some exercise in today-- but after my sleepless night, I ain't feeling it!!

Re: Can we start a Pregnancy Fitness Thread??

I pretty much have a regular routine that I've been following. I have been doing this even before I got my BPD (I'm 20wks6d).

Mon,Wed&Fri - 35mins weights, 30mins elliptical ('between 140/150bpm) & 10mins stretching
Tues&Thurs - 1hr walking on treadmill @ 2-3% incline (usually 'between 3.0-4.2) & 10mins stretching

Somedays I can push myself harder then others but other days I do the bare min. I just listen to my body. Even though I've been consistent with this routine I've still gained 15lbs so far Chat Icon I'm just trying not to exceed to 35lbs total.
