Can we talk about solids?
We’ve started giving DD baby oatmeal and she is definitely loving it. Last week, she would just spit it out – but she’s figured out now that she should swallow it – it’s the cutest thing – she opens her mouth and tilts her head back just like a baby bird!
Per Drs instructions I mix 1 tablespoon oatmeal with 2 TBS of breastmilk or formula. We just give it to her in the evening and then I usually nurse her afterwards. My question is – What is our next step? How did you introduce solids? Did you just do in the evening or throughout the day?

Re: Can we talk about solids?
we worked our way up to giving her cereal twice a day....once she was eating about 2 tbsp twice a day, then we introduced the stage 1 fruits. The first day we did just a little bit (the nurse at the ped office said about 1-2 tsp) just to make sure she didn't have a reaction. We continued to give her just the one fruit once a day with her cereal for 4 days. Once we knew she didn't have a reaction we moved on to the next fruit and started over again.
Some ped office have you do the vegetables first, but ours said it didn't matter and she had no problem taking to any of the vegetables once we went through the fruits.

Re: Can we talk about solids?
Well, if memory serves me correctly, we had DS eating oatmeal for a couple of weeks first.
Then we moved onto the orange vegetables (sweet potato, butternut squash). He would get it 2 times a day with his cereal and we would use the 4 day rule to make sure he wasn't having a reaction to a new food.
Next we went to green veggies (peas, green beans)
Then fruits (apples, pears, bananas, peaches, etc)
After doing veggies and moving into fruits, he was getting baby food 3 times a day along with cereal still.
I made all of his baby food and he has yet to turn anything down! (although I am sure it is bound to happen!)

Re: Can we talk about solids?
We went through the cereals (rice, oats, barley) and after that, we had green and yellow veggies (alternated), then fruit. My doctor didn't think there was really a right or wrong way to introduce fruit and veggies, but I kept reading do the veggies first so we did. He loves them too, the fruit he is slower to warm up to.
I usually give him a new food in the morning and afternoon (about 2 tsps. each time). I don't like to give it in the evening just in case he has a reaction.

Re: Can we talk about solids?
I skpped the cereal and started DS on fruit and veggies. He gets two stage 2 jars a day.

Re: Can we talk about solids?
DD started on about 2-3 week or so of cereal then we moved to veggies...she liked them all, but squash HATED her so she wont be having anymore of that. She started bananas today and I will be working my way through fruits with her now!
