Can we talk baby gates? Especially if you have wide doorways (Pic included)

This is our playroom - right off the kitchen and where Samantha spends alot of time since we are always in the kitchen. I do not mind her coming in the kitchen (she had no issues getting over the step), but I have not yet baby proofed in there, and there are times (like when I'm cooking) that I prefer her to not be underfoot.

If you have wide open doorways, what is the best baby gate, we don't mind having to spend $$ on this item.

TIA!

We got pressure mounted wood gates from Kidco. They are really good quality and look nice. They also make hardware mounted gates.

They have a variety of sizes and extensions for wide doorways.

Just some advice.

Check out Dr Foster Smith. Its a pet website BUT they have a huge assortment of decorative gates, plus I personally find them more durable since they are intended for large pets.

Thank you, we actually get their catalogs and I was considering that route, but wanted to get BTDT moms advice as well.

Thanks everyone!

I have a retractable gate and I love it. I have a wide opening between our living room and dining room and wanted to block off the kitchen dining area. It was hard to find a gate that opened that far (I think it was 62 inches or so most stop before that).

This is what we use and love it. I wouldn't use it top of stairs though but it is perfect for blocking off rooms.
If you buy more mounting pieces you can move it from room to room if you need to. We haven't done that but I know other people who have.

we have one of those playyard gates stretched across the area... they are mountable and since it is larger then the area we were able to bend out more into the other room so ds has a few extra feet of play area.. the door way is atleast 7 feet wide and it isnt an issue at all

Thanks again everyone!

This is actually AWESOME since it can be used outside. I live on a major roadway, but set really far back from the road. The way my house is set up though, we've always had one concern about kids playing in the backyard and going down the driveway. The only solution was to either always have the car out of the garage blocking the way down the driveway or putting up some sort of retractable gate, I just haven't been able to find one that was good to use outside too!
