Can you ask the prior homeowner to the house you are going to buy....

What their expenses are for the house

electric
water
oil

I know we can be different depending on what we use but at least it gives a ballpark for that house

We were going to ask the real estate agent if he can ask the owner?

Is this weird to do?

My dad keeps telling me to do it!

Has anyone else dont this?

It's not weird.

People do it all of the time. You can even ask for copies of the bills, through your RE.

We definitely asked the sellers that question. People do it all the time. Go for it. I would do it through the realtor though.

Yes, we did. Of course, how else would you know what to expect?

Yes, it's normal. I have requested all sorts of bills on behalf of buyers.

The only caveat is that bills will really depend on your lifestyle. If you have a home office and network with 10 computers in your home (plus all the fans and such that go along with that set up) then your bills will obviously be higher than the average homeowner. I use that example since I had a buyer who was shocked at the sellers billsChat Icon

As, a seller I wouldnt care if someone asked me but I wouldnt be able to give copies because once I pay it I toss my bills.

We did that as we looked at houses before we ut bids in on the houses. It's completely acceptable to ask.
