Can you BF for just a short time?
I just read another post about BF until after a year old & I wanted to know if its possible to BF for only a few months (while I'm home on maternity)...What was your experience?

Yes you can. Sometimes people just bf for a couple of days or weeks.
I don't plan on bf at all, but plenty of people just do it for a short amount of time.

Re: Can you BF for just a short time?
You can BF for just a couple days, which is when it's the most beneficial or you can BF for as long as you like...it's all up to you.

Re: Can you BF for just a short time?
A few months is entirely possible. My mom wanted to BF my sister for a full year [as she did me], but my sister was lazy, so full-time BF ended after a few months. Lots of moms do it when they have a few months off as opposed to just the 6 weeks.

Do it for as long as you can. Any amount of breastmilk is beneficial to your baby.

Re: Can you BF for just a short time?
of course you can, you can BF for as long as you want....MY idea is this
I will EBF (exclusively breast feed) for 8 weeks after birth
Then for weeks 9-10, I will try to add a few feedings of formula along with the breast feeding
Then weeks 11-12, I will only BF at night
Once I go back to work, I will continue to only breast feed at night, hopefully until my baby is 6 months....we will see how it goes

Re: Can you BF for just a short time?
My SIL has been BF since her daughter was born 3 1/2 mos ago but is planning on stopping once she starts her on cereal next month. I think it's a personal choice each Mom should make. If I can, I plan on doing it only for about 3-4 mos as well.
