Can you buy a cell phone and activate it on your account?
I have Cingular. I have a Motorola V220 right now. Mine has broken 2x and my DH has broken 1x - screen just stops working. I got them all less than a year ago. Im not eligible for an upgrade until November Can I buy a phone someplace other than through Cingular (CHEAPER)??

it has to be compatiable with cingular network...and all you would do is take the sim card out and place it in the new phone.
ebay has some ok deals on phones

Really - Cingular has to know nothing about it?

My dad goes through a few phones a year and he get all of them on ebay. I know with sprint all you have to do is call them when you get the new phone and give the serial number. Within a few minutes the new one works!

if its unlocked you can just put your current SIM card in it and it will work fine.

most of the time yes...(have to check what signals the phone can pick up) and unlock phones normally cost more also

All you need is someone's old Cingular phone to activate it.

As others said, you can just replace the sim. However if the phone is less than a year old, they should have a manufacturers warranty on it and they fix or replace the phone for free.

Re: Can you buy a cell phone and activate it on your account?
also keep in mind most phones prices are with a contract. So to buy a new phone is often $$$. When I had Cingular our phone broke. It was a free phone with our contract. To buy the same phone was $175! And the $99 phones they advertised everwhere were $200-$250 without a contract.
Best thing to do is contact Cingular and have them advise you what to do.
And always buy insurance, its worth it.
We had 3 phones break, and 2 phones stolen, insurance covered them all.

I know, this phone is a piece of junk though. Its been less than a year, I dont want to get ANOTHER replacement junk phone to replace the same junk phone. I want a better one!
