Can you dispute a free trial if you forget to cancel?

My DH ordered a trial of something really dumb and although I told him there was probably a catch he said there wasn't. Well now I am being charged $200 and I am very mad at him for being this dumb. He doesn't check email so we are now just seeing the email stating he had 14 days to cancel.

I am stuck paying right? Is there anything I can do? I have called customer service and they said I have to pay because its past 14 days.

Anyone have luck with something like this? If I dispute the charge what will happen? It is definitely my Dh's fault for not paying attention.

If it was $50 bucks I would just pay as this wouldn't be worth my time but $200 I am so very very annoyed.

Help!

I'd call back and ask to speak to the manager and tell them it wasn't clear to you about the need to cancel, didn't see the e-mail, bla bla. I find that when I speak with the manager I generally get a much better response. If he refuses to reimburse you I'd ask for at least half charge or something. Reiterate how you really don't need whatever it is he ordered

You can definitely try. However please note that companies are banking on the fact that people forget to cancel during the free trial period and that's where a bulk of their profit comes from. Having said that it is still possible that they can refund your money or reduce it like the pp said. They are also banking on the fact that people wont fight it.

I know! It really sucks that I was too busy to check what my husband did so I am long myself. Men should not be able to order stuff online!

If I did this he wouldn't be mad at me at all but I am so annoyed.

I work in this business. If you put up enough of a fight - you can probably get them to erase the charges. What company is it?

Definitely try. I forgot to cancel my Prime free trial a few years ago and Amazon refunded me as soon as I called, I was surprised/happy with the customer service.

It is some muscle and fitness BS! I have their unopened product and offered to send it back. Manager said no. They are located in Florida. Please let me know what I can do! My DH totally messed up but if it was a reputable company (like amazon) I'm sure this would be a non-issue.

dh thought it was $7 and that's it. He didn't cancel and got charged the full amount.

The only other thing you can do is if you were already charged like on a cc (because often times when you sign up for the trial you have to give a payment method as well) is dispute the charge. If you weren't and they're invoicing you, I don't think there's much you can do.

If you call again, you can threaten to go to the Better Business Bureau and your Attorney General and say their business practices are shady or not transparent enough but really if they state clearly that you'll be charged there isn't much you can do.

On a separate note, I would NOT be annoyed with yourself for not "checking up" (or however you put it) on what your husband did. He's a big boy, he flucked up and now he has to pay for it. Unfortunately, it was a somewhat costly screw up.

Was the offer online? One thing you can do is tell them that the offer was not clear and conspicuous and according to the FTC all offers and terms and conditions need to be clear and conspicuous to the consumer. You can threaten to go to the BBB about this because you don't feel they are following FTC rules. It may not work, but sometimes in my company if we get someone who is a "whistle blower" we'll bow down.
