Can you ladies help me?

My Aunt ( shes now single) is interested in adopting. She wants to adopt from China preferrably, its been a life long goal of hers and shes getting older.

Im trying to help her "start".

Can anyone provide some links to good websites to start getting info, seminars, Or agencies to contact to get the ball rolling?

Thanks so much!!

Yes, for china you definately have to fly there. The adoption is completed in china.

We are using New beginnings family and childrens services in Mineola, NY.

There is info on the website for you and her to look at.

I think, Korea is starting to allow single mothers to adopt. Just a rumor I heard. you don't have to travel with the Korean program. Although I could be wrong its worth checking it out.

Different agencies have different rules so she can also try some of the otehrs like Holt, Spence Chapin, Wide Horizons for Children. I can't remember any of the others, but I am sure someone else around here will help out too...

Come on guys!

For china you need to travel. But there is such a wonderful thing about going to the place that your child was born and seeing their birthplace and experience the culture.

My agency does China, Ethiopia and Korea and other countries.

Another agency is the Great Wall of China. I actually got a video from them when I first started my adoption search. Tell her also to look online. There is so much info. www.holtintl.org/forums has a good China forum.

Re: Can you ladies help me?

Hi Donna,
I am so excited for your Aunt! The China program does require travel, but it is important to spend some time in your child's birth country so you can help them understand where they were born. Korea has a program you don't have to travel, but I have heard they stopped accepting Dossiers for now. I write home studies for Harrah's Adoption International Mission for NY families, both for families using Harrah's or any other agency. The link is www.hfsadopt.org
There are limited openingings for singles, so it would be good if she could get started as soon as possible. I have information packettes if you let me know how to send it to her, private e-mail: [email protected]
You can also give her my e-mail if she would like for me to answer any of her questions.
I am a waiting mom, LID 8/17/05, so I am getting close and would love to share my experiences with her.
I hope you are having a great day!

Just so you know, the single mother thing is for Korean women living in Korea only. Korea is actually becoming stricter with international adoptions; not more lenient. Chat Icon

Re: Can you ladies help me?

we adopted from China. We used Great Wall, but if we were to do it again, I would not use them.. just an FYI.

I know China does singles, but from what I hear the wait is very long, so she should start asap. There are yahoo groups for all aspects of China adoptions. She should check there to see if she can find some additional infomation.

If you have any questions, let me know. I love talking about our adoptionexperience and our angel Diana
