Can you put paneling onto concrete in a basement?
DH and I are in the process of cleaning out our basement and want to finish it. In order to save time and $$$ we really dont want to have it framed and sheet rocked. Right now, the previous homeowners just painted the concrete. Is there a primer that is mold/mildew resistant that we can use? And after, can we just attach w/adhevise paneling directly on the cement or do you think we should just re-paint the cement for now?

oooh, that sounds like serious mold potential. I saw holmes on homes last night, and they were discussing how even putting hardwood flooring on concrete on top of plywood/plastic is a really bad idea (despite all flooring companies saying its ok), since the nails puncture the plastic, and the wood will wik moisture into the floor... this woman had 3 floors destroyed that way!
I'm certain basement concrete walls would do the same if paneling went directly on top of concrete. They must have some serious moisture barrier contraptions in between the 2 surfaces....

That's what I thought. I am sure we will wind up putting a good coat of the mold/mildew resistant KILZ primer and than probably just paint it for now. We just need a place to start putting all the toys and things.

I wouldn't panel over concrete. I know when they frame out a basement, they leave some space between the framing and sheetrock and the basement walls to allow for circulation. I think you would be fine with painting the walls. Just go to Home Depot or Lowes and tell them what you plan on doing.

Wait until you can do the finishing properly. I hate paneling so any time it's mentioned I cringe. Paint with a light color for now and maybe lay down some industrial carpeting. It will give a fresh look until you can afford to sheet rock.
