Can you put twins on the same schedule?

Everyone keeps telling me don't worry you can put twins on the same schedule regarding feedings and sleeping. I just am not sure it is possible to do this.

I keep thinking it cannot be that easy to do. People tell me if one baby wakes up, to wake the other. If you are feeding one try to feed the other at the same time. Did this work for anyone? Can anyone give me tips?

TIA

Yes, you can put your twins on the same schedule. I did it! When one woke up to eat as soon as I was done feeding him I woke up the other baby. They slept and ate at the same time and still do since I brought them home from the hospital and they are going to be 2 in December.
You have to be constant about it. Just do one thing after another with them and they will be however you want them to be. Good Luck!

Ditto to this. I would go OUT of my mind if they weren't. As soon as they get older and better at feeding, I plan to feed them at the same time.

I don't understand how multiple mommies feed on demand?!?Chat Icon

Re: Can you put twins on the same schedule?

DEFINITELY...I have my triplets on the same schedule. If they weren't I definitely would lose my mind. During the day I feed them every 3 hours. One is usually stirring and hungry and I usually have to wake up the other two. I feed two at one time and then will feed the third (or if I have help they will feed the third). At night same thing...but my DH will feed the 3rd.

It is definitely possible to have multiples on the same schedule.

Re: Can you put twins on the same schedule?

like the other girls mentioned it is so much easier to have them on the same schedule. i did from birth and still do now at 17 months. as far as eating/sleeping.
during the day i did every 3 hours..
i mostly used both boppy pillows and i was in between them and held the bottles. of course there were times i did one at a time to bond with them. but in the middle of the night.. MUCH easier to get them done at the same time!
so i highly recomend the boppy pillows!
i always wake up the other when the 1st wakes up.. we tried a few times to just let the other one sleep but every time he would just get us up like 20 min later so it wasn't worth it.

Re: Can you put twins on the same schedule?

I also always fed them right after one another when they were tiny. Now, I feed them at the same time. If I am the only adult around, I put them in their FP infant-toddler rockers and I sit in between them on the floor.

I have also been "sleep training" them for awhile. There is no way I could rock them to sleep all the time. Now, at about 4.5 months they are pros at soothing themselves. At nap time, I bring them both up to their room and sit them in the glider. I sit in front of them on the floor and rock the chair while I sing to them and then read to them. I pick one up and rock him for a few minutes in my arms while the other is still in the chair and then put him down. Then, I rock the other one for a few minutes and put him down. They go down drowsy, but awake and fall asleep in about 10 minutes.

If I didn't do it this way, I would LOSE my mind!

It is definitely possible, my twins are now 13 months and are still on the exact same schedule.

Re: Can you put twins on the same schedule?

In the beginning it can be tricky. Especially if you have a great sleeper and a crappy sleeper.

My girls have been on the same schedule pretty much since the beginning. I didn't enforce a true "schedule" until I moved them to their cribs at 4 months. Since then I feed them together (tandem nursing) and put them down for nap (or bed) together. They eat their dinner (solids) together. Take a bath immediately following each other, etc. All of this helps set the routine/schedule.

Like a PP said, as long as you are consistent, they will adapt to what you expect of them.

Since the girls have been in the cribs, I do not wake the other for a feeding in the middle of the night. J has been sleeping for the most part straight through and K was waking up once around 4am for a while. I would feed K and let J go through the night. Now they both (for about 3 weeks) sleep 6:45pm-5am.

edited for typo

totally. My twins have always been on the same schedule. The slept through the night from about 3-4 months old and were in bed together awake at 7 pm since they were 5 months old.

Same schedule here too. My babies were in the NICU so the hospital started the schedule for me and I just kept it going when I got home.

I have always fed them together whether I was bottle feeding or breast feeding. I always woke the other baby when one woke. Even though 99% I was waking DD up. At one point I was afraid waking DD would mess with her ability to sttn but it never did. DS was usually the one to wake up and then when he started to sttn DD just followed.

As they got older (maybe 4-5 months) I didn't wake a baby a naptime. Every once in a while one baby will take a really short nap and the other will nap longer and then their nap schedules will be opposite for the rest of the day. I don't mind though...I get alone time with themChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Can you put twins on the same schedule?

Yes, my boys have always been on the same schedule. When they were infants, I would feed them at the same time. 1 would be on my lap; the other, laying next to me on the couch or bed. Trust me, it will make your life SOOOOO much easier!

I did not read any books about being a twin mom. I planned to, but just never got around to it. Honestly, I don't think there is anything you can read that will prepare you. Once the babies come home from the hospital, you just figure out what works for you. I had all of these great "plans." We just did things that worked for us once we had the boys home w/ us.
