Can you recommend your surgeon for...
Breast reduction?
I have a consultation set up for next week with Dr. Charlotte Rhee.
However, I have United Healthcare EPO and the receptionist said that EPO's usually don't cover the surgery.
I was wondering who did you use, and what insurance you had (if you had the surgery medically covered).
Thanks so much!!!

I used Dr. Peter Neumann in Great Neck.
Excellent results. Great guy and board certified.
His office got me approved.
I had gotten letters from my Chiropractor, my regular doc and my gyno with the recommendation.
THat helped.

Re: Can you recommend your surgeon for...

I was actually going to FM you because I searched and saw you had a reduction done...but I didn't want you to think I was a stalker.
So...this is a HUGE step for me just making the app't for the consultation.
But, I figured I'd see the doctor first (though the receptionist said the doc doesn't really accept insurance and especially not an EPO, but I figured it's a free consult, so why not).
I have scoliosis, but haven't been to a doctor for it in YEARS! You're saying I probably need to be seen again to document that I do have scoliosis, right?
What insurance do you have (that covered the surgery), if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks SOOOOO much!!

I would go to the Chiro, get x-rays. Unfortunately you need to get these things in order to get it approved.
Grooves in your shoulders? get it documented.
Get letters from all of your docs and give them to the doc that you finally decide on to get it covered. Don't be put off if it first gets declined. Try again.
I had United Healthcare at the time. My friend had hers done 3 years ago by Dr. Neumann and she did everything I told her to do. It took a while but she got it approved and is very happy. She also had UHC. It was a PPO.

OK...so spine Xrays from chiro...check. who documents the divets in my shoulders, cause BOY...do I have those!??
Are those the only "proof" you sent to your insurance co. documenting that the surgery was medically necessary?
I'm sorry for all the questions...but I really want to get this done and I have no clue of how to get there.
THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!

Is the EPO only in network? I had out of network coverage and it was paid at 70%. My out of pocket was minimal though.

Re: Can you recommend your surgeon for...
I had my regular doc write a letter documenting how it is impeding my quality of life from a comfort and health perspective.
My gyno did the same since he examins my breasts, that letter went far.
I have slight scoliosis and had been in chiro treatment for a few years.
Then the kicker was the pictures they take. They take headless shots and send them in as well.

Re: Can you recommend your surgeon for...
I would highly recommend Dr. Barry Douglas with Long Island Plastics Group in Garden City, 516-742-3404. He is an incredibly gifted and talented surgeon, he also has a wonderful "bed side" manner, makes you feel comfortable and at ease during all phases of your meetings and procedures.
