Can you still pass on the Flu & Swine Flue virus if you are vaccinated?

I'm real ignorant to the whole how a virus can be spread so I appreciate some input here.

I have a 2 year old and a 4 month old. If my 2 year old, DH and I get vaccinated can we still pass on the virus to my 4 month old if we come across someone with the flu? Another words can we still spread it to those who arent' vaccinated?

I just asked the ped the exact question and she said, "definitely!"

Really? I thought the reason they were vaccinating people who have infants 6 months and younger was because it would prevent the spread of the flu to the infant?

After you are vaccinated, you can still be "infected" with the flu, meaning that the virus can attack some of the cells in your body and replicate. The vaccine has prepped your immune system, so it will respond and destroy all those cells so you will never have symptoms or feel sick, but you can still spread the virus. The viral load in someone who is vaccinated and "infected" is miniscule compared to actually having the flu so it definitely provides a lot of protection. That is why good hand washing is still important.

I didn't want to sound stupid but that's why I posted this. If we all get vaccinated what's the difference? Chat Icon I have a speech therapist that comes to the house two days a week I know that she has been vaccinated but all of this doesn't really help my 4 month old right?

I do take out the clorox wipes I get from Costco and wipe down the table and door knob everytime she leaves. I wash my hands my son's hands and face. There's only so much I can do. It has been sinking in a little to get the shot by why should I if it wont protect the little one?
