Can you take a multi and prenatal vitamins?
My doc told me to switch to prenatals, but it does not have all the stuff in it my multi has-- can I take both? Just for overall well being and not TTC.

I take just pre-natals all the time instead of a multi. I'd ask the Dr. just in case there is the same thing in both, it could be too much. HTH!

Re: Can you take a multi and prenatal vitamins?
usually, the prenatal is taken instead of a multi.... while it has increased folic acid, it also has REDUCED vit A, since high levels can cause birthdefects....

Re: Can you take a multi and prenatal vitamins?
Just take the prenatal and get yourself a bottle of folic acid (800 mg). no need to take more than that.

Re: Can you take a multi and prenatal vitamins?
you should definitely not take both - especially since excess vitamin A is not good for TTC or pregnancy. just take a prenatal that has folic acid in it and B6 and you will be fine.

Re: Can you take a multi and prenatal vitamins?
Definitely don't take both.
My Dr. told me Centrum multivitamin is fine but pre-natal is fine too. I opted to take prenatals and he also said whatever I decided to take I should take an additional folic acid supplement.

Re: Can you take a multi and prenatal vitamins?
OK-- I am a little confused. I had been taking a multi with a folic acid supplement to get the recommended 800mg. I take vitamins regularly anyway-- this was not something new for TTC.
My doc told me to stop with the supplements all together and switch to the prenatal since that gives me the full amount.
So, why are some of you taking a prenatal plus a folic acid supplement? Doesn't the prenatal contain all the folic acid you need-- or it depends on which one you are taking?

Re: Can you take a multi and prenatal vitamins?
If you have a RX prenatal - yes it has all the folic acid you need - a lot of people take the otc prenatal and have to add folic acid and DHA also if that is something you want to add also (most docs agree you should)
I take RX primacare - it has everything in it
HTH

you are correct here - prescription prenatals have the right amount of folic acid for TTC and pregnancy, but if you are taking OTC prenatals, you should also be taking a folic acid supp, since the OTC probably won't have enough (my duet chewables contain 1mg of folic acid).
