Can you take other vitamins with pre-natals?
I wanted to take my B complex Vitamin. Do you think that would be too much vitamins?
Does anyone else take other supplements beside your pre-natals?

Probably a stupid question ... but... why would you take pre-natal vitamins if you are not pregnant? I don't mean this in a mean way. I just want to GNC yesterday to pick up vitamins and saw pre-natal ones but I wasn't sure it was a good idea to take before getting pregnant.

My gyn. had told me that it's always a good idea to prepare your body for pregnancy...that includes prenatals. I started taking them about 5 months ago, and we're not planning on conceiving for another 6 months or so.
As far as taking other vitamins in conjunction with prenatals, I wouldn't suggest it...talk to your doctor first.

call your doctor to make sure - but generally you should not take other vitamins with your prenatals. Too much of certain vitamins/minerals can be very bad.

I was told that women of childbearing years should at least have folic acid in their systems in the event they should get pregnant (intentionally or not). The extra folic acid may prevent neural tube defects in babies. Pre-natal vitamins have a concentrated amount of folic acid as well as other vitamins that a baby needs. I would want to protect my unborn child as soon as it was conceived.
Side note: My mom is on folic acid but she is 75. When I told her that women of childbearing years should be on it, she looked at me and said "What the hell am I on them for then?"

I am on an extra vitamin plus a pre natal. Actually it is impossible for your body to overdose on FA. I am on almost 4,000 mcg per day. I am also on extra B6 and B12, which can cause nerve damage at high levels(no where near what an extra vitamin would do.
