Can you tell me about Clomid?
DH's SA came back perfect- so now the doctor wants to start me on clomid but not until the 3rd day of my next cycle. I am going to do searches but any info you ladies can tell me right away will help me so much and calm my fears too. TIA

Re: Can you tell me about Clomid?
Dont be worried
I HATE taking med's and I was fine on Clomid.
They will probably start you on a low dose which shouldnt create too may side effects.
The side effects for me were some moodiness...highs and lows kinda, but I KNEW it was the med's. And Hot flashes. The hot flashes were the worst for me.
Oh and some BB tenderness.
The side effects lasted for me from like day 5-6 thru day 10-14. But reallyw erent all that bad.
If you stay on it for a few months they do tend to increase from what I hear...
It basically helps you ovulate stronger follicles and more follicles...and in a more timly fashion...they can pretty much when on Clomid time when you will O and its pretty accurate.

Re: Can you tell me about Clomid?
Clomid basically tricks your body into believing it is not producing enough estrogen...therefore, increasing your fsh and then estradoil levels. It can stimulate follicule growth in a person who doesn't ovulate on their own or you can produce multiple follies if you already ovulate. It can also extend your luteal phase and raise your progesterone levels.
It does affect all tissue that contain estrogen receptors..so there can be some side effects, like drier cm, thinner uterine lining., hot flashes, mood swings etc...
If you take clomid, definitely have your ob/gyn monitor you. In other words, make sure they have you come in at about cd10 for a u/s to see how many follies and the size of them..and the thickness of your lining.
I have not had any side effects on it. I have only taken it for two cycles though. First one was 50mg...and the second I asked for 100mg , so I can produce more follies.

Re: Can you tell me about Clomid?
Donna thank you sooooooo much. I am a lil nervous b/c he briefly gave me some insight and told me that chances are you can have more than 1 baby and that there are health risks involved too. I believe he mentioned too that there could be birth defects with it too- that scares me, and with that he asked if I was on prenatals, I told him I ran out so I have to go and pick up another prescription. He said cycle day 3 is when I would start it. oh boy, off to work I go now but not with a clear head thanks again!

Re: Can you tell me about Clomid?
Michelle thank you!!! See now Im worried , I am allready dry and now I think it will get worse. I am going to order Preseed, that seemed to help me before and comfort. Yes the doctor said for me it will help me ovulate better- but really didnt know what he meant till you explained it! You should be a doctor!!!!!

Re: Can you tell me about Clomid?
Pre seed can definitely help !
A lot of times IUIs are done with clomid because of the 'drying" factor. To be honest, you could have the opposite effect. I actually have more cm with clomid....

Re: Can you tell me about Clomid?
I wanted to add that I had NO dryness on Clomid and I have cervical scarring which means no EWCM for me ever.
The drying effect of Clomid doesnt happen to everyone...
It didnt for me.
and unfortunatly Clomid is a drug that shouldnt be used for more then 6 months yet doesnt produce the most desired effect untill after a few months of use for some people.
It took 3 months of Clomid for me to start seeing more then one possible mature follicle...
And I did want to point out on the downside, it could cause ovarian cysts. I had large cysts the cycle following Clomid all 3 months....
and this month I didnt ovulate for the first time in years that I know of, due to the Clomid induced cysts..
so like anything it has its pros and its cons IMO
