Megapixels....as time goes by, they seem to get bigger but the truth is unless you are blowing up the pictures, you dont need the highest megapixel.
Even an 8x10 at 3.2 megapixel looks good.
I had a Sony, A Canon, Oympus and recently owned a Nikon D40 (SLR) and so far my Nikon rocks.
I had probs with my canon, my Sony & Olympus were great.

Re: Can you tell me about digital cameras
I am in the hunt for one now to replace my 4 megapixel Sony.
I did a lot of research & DH & are going to get the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W80 7.2 mp this weekend. We didn't want to purchase anything too big or spend a fortune since they are forever changing them. It is on sale for $206.99 & got the 2nd highest rating on Consumers for the "Sub-compact" category

Re: Can you tell me about digital cameras
What type of photos do you plan on taking? I bought a Fuji about 2 years ago, because at the time, it was the fastest "button to picture taking" time. When you press the button, there is a delay. I have 2 DC, so I knew it was vital that the camera click as soon as possible. It also had the fastest image-to-image time. I could take two photos faster than other cameras could.
If you do a lot of large poster-sized portraits, megapixels are much more important than shutter speed.
Night photos require other options.
Memory type may be of concern, as well as battery type. I like the AA battery cameras, so I can get plenty of extra batteries, and borrow from other devices if I need.
Waterproof? Large display? Movies? Size? Can it be too big to fit in a pocket? Price? For $2,000 and a large size, you can get a great camera....
