Cancelling a Check
Has anyone ever done this? Do I just call the bank and cancel it? Don't want to get into the details here. Thanks.

Re: Cancelling a Check
depends on the bank...most usually want you to sign a stop payment form, which i think can be done through a fax....if the check has already cleared you may not be able to retrieve the funds.
also...there is usually a stop payment fee, around 15 -35$

Re: Cancelling a Check
I had to cancel a check once when it was lost in the mail, I mailed out a new one and cancelled the old one. Commerce charges i think $30 to cancel. you just call up your bank.

They charge $25.
An old landlord that we had lost our rent check once and she covered the cost of the stop payment fee by deducting it from our rent.
But it is really easy, just call your bank and tell them the check number and the fee will appear in your account.

Re: Cancelling a Check
If you have online banking, you could probably do it from there. My credit union charges $5 to stop payment online or $25 to do it over the phone or in person.
