Canning, anyone?
Hello!
I took a class this past weekend on canning tomatoes and I'm hooked. I made a batch of a dozen full plum tomatoes that look so pretty and will last a good year in the pantry. So excited, that I'm looking into what else I can start on asap. Thinking pears and peaches next.
Anyone else can in here?
I'm kind of proud that I did this, here's my progress so far:

I don't. But my daughter does. Everything. Here is her pantry.
We're so different. Sometimes I wonder where she came from

That's so cool! Where did you take your class? I feel like this is something I would love to do, but would need someone to guide me properly.

Re: Canning, anyone?
I took it at The Brooklyn Kitchen. It was a bit pricey, but as part of the class, I got 20 lbs of Roma organic tomatoes and 12 jars to begin, so it was worth it in the end! They have another few classes coming up.

Great job. I did canned four jars last year as a test with the thought of doing more this year. So far my tomato harvest is not as great as years prior. But this is inspirational. I might just go out and buy some tomatoes.

Yes, our families do. We stock up for a whole year or more worth of canned tomatoes. We have all the machines and do it in the backyard. Throw some basil in there and seal the lids. Adds such a nice flavor!

Yup we do 6 bushels of tomatoes. 3 for sauce, 2 for cooking, and 1 for marinara. We also can peaches, pears, apple pie filling, and peach pie filling. We freeze 7 dozen ears of corn, broccoli, cauliflower, berries, cubed squash, carrots, peas, broth and some more. We take the months of Aug and Sept and just can and freeze like crazy people!

That's awesome!!! Are peaches and pears fairly easy to do? Similar to tomatoes? I think I'm going to attempt that this weekend.
