cannolis

So I had tried cannolis a few times and thought they were no big deal and not that good. But then we went to boston and I tried one with the mascarpone filling and it was phenomenal. They filled it for us right there and they were just made and awesome. We went to a good italian bakery in greenvale yesterday and got cannolis and they are good and also made with mascarpone, but the cream was really creamy - not as thick as the stuff we had in boston, and it was prefilled - and not as fresh. But good. But the cheese had a very slight anise flavor which i don't care for. Anyone know of a bakery where they fill them for you and they are made really fresh? And they use the mascarpone filling?

I think I didn't like them before because the ones I had tried were usually on party platters at peoples homes and were not filled with the mascarpone filling. And had chocolate chips on them. I don't care for that. But now Im on a mission to find really good ones ever since having them in boston. Its my new obsession. :)

Any recommendations?

Get thee to Nick's Pizza in RVC. I could take or leave Cannoli until I had one of theirs! They are made fresh there and filled to order so that they don't sit around. The filling is the lightest, creamiest I've ever had and the pastry shell melts in your mouth, not that hard crunchy you get with most. You won't be disappointed!

Re: cannolis

thank you!!!

I live not too far from RVC, so I will def check that out.

Any idea what neighborhood the one in the city is in? I work in the city, so going there won't be out of the question.

Re: cannolis

It's in SoHo, but they also set up a booth at different fairs/festivals. The GOOD street fairs, not the crappy ones :) Check their schedule on their site..they do the one in the meatpacking district, the holiday markets, stuff like that.

I don't remember the name!! It was a small bakery in the north end. We saw they had a long line out the door, so we figured it was worth checking out. couldn't tell you the name if my life depended on it.
