cannot get reggie to be trained

he is 1 yr and half and he still goes inside regularly Chat Icon Chat Icon
I have tried everything: he is in a crate and will not go pee or poop in there, we bring him out 3x+ a day for a walk, he lifts his leg everywhere- no matter how many times he pees outside he always saves some pee for inside, he poops inside without warning-- he never lets me know when he has to go out, this is my first time with a pup and I dont know what to do- I dont have a yard so thats tough but if I could somehow train him to let me know when he needs to go out- someone please help- i have a 2 month old baby and I need to get this resolved before the baby becomes mobile!

Re: cannot get reggie to be trained

Is he neutered? that he wants to leave his mark everywhere? this is really really hard. when you take him out , do you give him any commands like tell him outside or go make ? and do you give him praise when he does go? also have you trained him to speak? when you say outside by the door you have to tell him speak- when he speaks give him a treat and praise him- when he poops you and DH have to be consistent too thats really important. do not put his face in it but bring him to it and say while pointing to it 'No bad boy- outside- then take him to the door and say outside- holding his collar open the door and say outside. then put him in his crate. thats good he is not goin in there. next you can try and I know its gross but put paper next to the door and put his poop on it so he smells it and recognizes and remembers the scent to door. most most importantly is you have to praise him and say good boy outside go make or whatever word you use and give him treats, but not too many you dont want diahrrea. Ihave a question - is he marking the same areas he pee'd on before? or all new areas?

you have to remove the scent and its hard to do that, a lot of these pet urine cleaners dont work.

what you need to do is pat dry it- then in an empty spray bottle mix 2 tablespoons of baking powder, 2 ounces of lemon juice and fill the rest up with water. this you spray on the area after it is dry this eliminates the odor and KILLS the bacteria from the urine, use it on the poop areas too. the baking soda neutralizes the odor, the lemon juice kills the bacteria.

good luck and let me know how you are doing. and remember you have to be patient- it doesnt happen overnight!
