Car Insurance Question???
Can I renew my Car insurance with my married name, if I still have my maiden name on my license?
I am changing my car Ins company and I figured I'd put my married name on it.
Do you think it matters if I didn't change my license yet????
TIA!!

not sure, but change your license anyhow. I did it a week after marriage (yes, I hate waiting) and got a NY license in the mail in 3 weeks. Actually my SOS beat my license by 4 days.

Re: Car Insurance Question???
Be careful with that... If your husband isn't already on your policy or if he doesn't have insurance under his own name, they're going to put him on your policy.
I'm not changing the title/regi for my car for that reason. I don't want them knowing about my husband until I have to.

I know your totally right. I need to get my azz to motor vehicles and get it done.
But, I need to get new car ins now. So, I figured i'd just put my married name on it.

This is incorrect. Just because you used your husbands name doesn't mean he is added to your policy at all.

But it can tie you to your husband. As long as his record is clean....you should be fine.
(I work in ins)

Re: Car Insurance Question???
DH and I have one car and live at the same residence. He's only been driving for 2 years (lived in Brooklyn all his life) and never had insurance under his own name.
So if they find out about him, yes, they will assume he is at least an occasional driver of my car unless he can prove he has his own vehicle/insurance under his own name.
Since he is an inexperienced driver, the chances are that he's going to raise my policy premium. I'd rather not take that chance till I have to.
This happened to my parents when I got my license, and many of my insureds when I worked at an insurance brokerage and wrote personal policies.
I don't know if things have changed in the years since, insurance-wise, but I know they've done it in the past. I haven't given them any reason to "check into me" in the past 10 years - no claims, no accidents, no tickets, only 1 address change. But if they do decide to check up on me, they can find out who else is living at my address, run my credit score, and run my DMV report legally.
The insurance companies snoop on you more than you think!
