Car Rentals...
Has anyone gone on a plane with twins? What did you do about renting a car? Did you bring carseats?

Re: Car Rentals...
When we flew, we brought our car seats with us. We checked them in, they wrapped them up in some sort of plastic bags. There was no damage. Then we put them in the rental car.It was actually easier than I thought. You also check your stroller in. You take it right up to the plane, then they have it waiting for you when you get off.

Exactly what we do. I wouldn't trust a carseat from a rental place. Who knows how old it is. Or how many kids have been in it.

Re: Car Rentals...
Thanks, I will just bring mine. I just realized I have to get them to the airport anyway so I need one for the car ride.

Re: Car Rentals...
We have flown a few times with them, but never rented a car, my parents picked us up both times. We brought thier car seats on the plane and they sat in them on the flight. They wound up sleeping most of the flight this way. We brought our stroller right up to the gate and they had it waiting for us when we got off the plane.
I am not fond of the idea of renting a car seat either since they alwasy say you need to know the history of the car seat.
Good Luck, and have fun!

Re: Car Rentals...
Busting in here, but I work for Avis and Budget car rental and just wanted to let you know.
The car seats are extremely well regulated. We always have the most current ones, we have strict cleaning policies on them and we have our rental agents certified in the LATCH system to make sure they are properly installed.
Our insurance premuims rely on this and we take our customers' safety VERY seriously.
So whatever you decide, just know that the rental car seat will be safe.

Re: Car Rentals...
We have the Graco SafeSeats - there was no way I was bringing 2 of those on for our trip. We rented and had a horrible experience. It was 3 am our time and we're trying to install the seats that looked like they were from 1985. It's a liability if they help you - they didn't even have a book for us to look at though so we were pizzed. If you can bring your own I would. Good luck!

Re: Car Rentals...
We are doing this for our trip to Florida tomorrow. We are renting the seats through Hertz. If you are a AAA member you get two for the price of one. It cost us $50 for the week. We just have too much luggage to bring both seats with us. The boys will be sitting on our laps and from what i was told Hertz will have the car seats installed and AAA said they would be available if need be to install the seats. I will let you know how it goes.

Okay we are back. I was really ****** off at Hertz because you have to install the seats and they give you no insturction booklet or anything. They just hand them to you across the counter. I should have listented to you FireIslandLove.....so here we are after a stressful flight in the Florida heat trying to install these two seats in an underground garage......I thought my DH was going to blow up.....it took us a 1/2 hour to get them in.
Next time I think i will just bring my own. The seats were not as good as ours are (but still good ones) and if we are going to have to do all that I might as well.

Re: Car Rentals...
UGH... I'm sorry. I would think they would install them as well... that way they are properly done.
We will definitely be bringing our own seats... yes, all the way to Hawaii

No, DH's entire family for his parent's 50th wedding anniversary next year Their treat!!
MIL, FIL, 2 SIL, 2 BIL, 2 15 yr olds, 2 12 year olds, 9 year old, DH, me and DD and DS.
My IL's travel agent has her job cut out for her. We are not allowed on a lot of tours because the twins are under two so scheduling things has been a bit of a nightmare. We are traveling with 8 baby sitters though...lol.
It's not ideal but it's the only way I'm going to see Hawaii. So first trip will be to Hawaii... they better not get used to such luxury it will be all downhill from there.
