Car Seat

When do you switch from the infant car seat to the front facing seats?
Thanks

Re: Car Seat

I believe it's when they turn 1. I am going to ask my ped. about it when I take Cassidy next week, because she's 9 months, but she's really too big for the rear facing seat.

I'll let you know what they say

Re: Car Seat

Thanks! Logan looks too big for his infant seat and I thought it had a weight limit of like 25 lbs. BUT I dont think his head is stable enough to be in one of the upright front facing car seats.
Is there an inbetween car seat?

Re: Car Seat

Once they grow out of the infant seat you go to the big car seat but rear facing. We have the Britax Marathon. Although Connor is no where near the 20lb limit or the height requirement.

Jack is in his convertible seat. We purchased the Evenflo Triumph 5. I think it looks like a lazyboy and it fits in both my Escape and my husband's pickup. None of the britax would fit in his truck.
From the Manufacturer
The Triumph 5 in stunning Rockefeller fashion comes with a Comfort Touch pad system which provides extra cushioning in the head, hip seat and thigh areas. Product features includes: 3 position harness height adjustments; 5 position recline; easy 2 position buckle slot adjustments; seat guard base; all front adjustments and Tension Right knobs that tighten harness for proper fit.

Jack loves it, it fits easily rear and front facing and we heard it is easy to travel with and we are flying for Thanksgiving. He's been in for a few weeks now since he surpassed the 26 inch requirment for his Graco Snugride! And I'll find out wednesday what his weight is.. I'm so jealous of the Mom's still using there snugride but I think most don't obey the requirements.

I do keep my snugride in my truck in case I need to put him in it to go food shopping so I can plop him in that and then in the cart.

Note :Jack is in the Triumph Rear Facing until he is a year and then we will turn it.

Re: Car Seat

I was told you cannot change the seat till they are a year old. I know it used to be 20 pounds or a year which ever was first but now its a year old.

Re: Car Seat

After the "infant" bucket seat you buy a "convertible" seat which MUST be rear facing until AT LEAST one year AND 20 pounds. Rear facing is sooooo much safer, and is actually recommended for as long as your child can fit in that position. (Which is probably until after their second birthday!)

Andrew outgrew his infant seat at 3 months. Chat Icon We moved him to the convertible (Britax Marathon) car seat at 4 months old. Boy did he look so small in it!! We kept it rear facing until he was almost 14 months old because it is the safest that way, even though he far surpassed the weight requirement at 8 months!

Re: Car Seat

At about 3.5 months Kevin hit the height requirement of the infant seat which mine was 26 inches. I changed it at about 4-5 months though since he wasn't hanging over the edges. Now I have him in the regular car seat which I have rear facing. He seemed so tiny in it at first and his head was a bit wobbly. We bought those wing things and it helped some. Rear facing requirement is 20lbs AND 1 year of age.

At the hospital they told me 1 year AND 20lbs. They must meet both requirements, not just the weight requirement.

That's good to know. I was unsure about that. Chat Icon
