car seat question
For those of you getting/registering for a Graco car seat . . . did you chose the Step 1 or the Snug Ride. So far the only real difference I can see is the price -- it seems like the Step 1 is almost 2x the price of the Snug Ride.
Can anyone explain why the price difference? Is it just the newer model?
(I see that the Step 1 accommodates bigger babies . . . but not sure if that really matters, since we'd be getting a toddler/convertable car seat at some point)
Also, any opinions on the "snuzzler" head and body supporters -- they seem unnecessary too.
TIA

Re: car seat question
I'm getting the snug ride-it was highly recommended by Baby Bargains. I've not heard of the step 1.

Re: car seat question
Are you talking about the Graco Safeseat? That carseat holds to a higher weight limit.
The study done by Consumer Reports picked the Snugride as safer but then they retracted the study because they said they were doing the test at highter speeds. I would still pick the Snugride.

Re: car seat question
Whoops -- I guess it is called the Safeseat -- not the Step 1. I just was looking at BRU and this is what they had as far as a description (it looks a lot like the SnugRide and I had heard that one was best too):
Features
* Includes EPS, Energy absorbing foam liner
* Fits a 97th percentile of One Year Old
* 5 point Harness with easy, up-front adjust
* Convenient, Stay in Car Base features an Innovative Belt Lock-off Design and Dial Adjustments
* Deluxe Seat Pad for Premium Comfort
Product Description
The new Infant SafeSeat™ (Step 1) is one of the only infant car seats on the market that will accommodate a child rear-facing up to 30 lbs. and 32 inches tall. Thus, this car seat fits 97% of one-year-olds, which is very important because children must remain in a rear-facing car seat until they reach one year of age AND at least 20 lbs. The convenient stay-in-car base features an innovative belt lock-off which tightly secures the vehicle seatbelt for easy installation. One-hand dial adjustment on the base will also help ensure that you have the proper angle for installation. The patent pending, 5-point harness buckle features front adjustment which makes buckling & unbuckling more pleasant for both parent & child. This lightweight car seat is also equipped with an ergonomic handle to provide premium cushioning and comfort. In addition to the standard features of our Infant SafeSeat™, this model is also outfitted with a 180 rotating canopy and a removable infant head support to cradle your baby's head and neck. With all of these great features the new Step 1 Infant SafeSeat™ will serve you and your baby well from the time you bring your little one home from the hospital till the day he or she reaches 30 lbs. and is ready to graduate to the Step 2 Toddler SafeSeat™.
