Re: Car seat question....

I'm not sure if you NEED to.. we are going to because I have no idea if it's installed properly. But most hospitals will inspect it before they allow you to leave the hospital.

Re: Car seat question....

Also i'm pretty sure any fire dept. or police station will also check it if you are unsure.

Re: Car seat question....

You don't need to, but its a very good idea to do it. They say something like 75% of them are installed incorrectly.

Re: Car seat question....

We just got ours installed today. I'm glad I did because they make sure the angle are right and had to use part of a noodle (those foam things for the pool) to make sure it was correct. We got it done at the PD.

Most hospitals will NOT check for you because if it is wrong and something happens they are liable.

We didn't, but my DH is an EMT, so he had to take a class on it.

True. The hospital just wants to make sure you have a car seat and the baby is in it properly. They won't check the installation of it.

We have never had ours inspected. IMO they are very easy to install and you can tell when it's not in properly.

You actually really can't tell when it's not in properly.

My husband installed our second Britax into his car last week- I brought it to have it inspected - the inspector said it was ALMOST perfect except for two minor things.

He corrected them.

To me - it's a no-brainer really. It's your childs safety, it's free, and I don't understand why anyone wouldn't do it when the resources are there for you.

I have the number for the inspector in Mineola. Not sure where you live. If you do a search someone posted a huge list of places you can go to for installation.

I respect your thoughts about it but I disagree. And I've heard Britax is harder to install. Ours is very easy to install and it's not a question of my child's safety it's a question of am I going to bring it to be inspected every time I take a car seat in and out of the car? Because if you're not willing to do that then what's the point? With the latch system in cars today the seats are extremely safe and although the media will tell you otherwise seats don't just fall over in accidents.

I am just also letting the moms-to-be know that it is so simple so why risk putting it in the wrong way.

I also think it's a different story when you are switching them out of different cars. You obviously can't get it inspected everytime.

That's also why we bought a second one.

So you just walk into a police station and ask them to inspect it? I never heard of having your seat installation inspected, so please tell me more. Chat Icon

Yes my husband is a police officer and they do it ALL the time!!!

And for his department, if you come and you don't have a car seat, they give you one! Chat Icon

Some officers actually get sent on car seat installation training. My husband is going in 2 months.

I will bump an old thread for you.

Not sure where you live but there are numbers for both Suffolk and Nassau.

I understand your feelings on it, I was just stating mine as well. Yes it's easy but personally I don't think it's necessary. I actually have 3 car seats for each car DD is in and we don't switch them out often but we do it enough that I feel like it would be difficult to have it inspected every time we have to move the car seat. Again I'm not saying you're in the wrong I just don't agree that it's something that has to be done.
