Ratings are a funny thing. Consumer Reports rates seat, but to be honest their ratings have not always been the best to go by. In the past many of their highest rated seats did not install easily in cars. For example, one seat that they rate high, the Insurance Institute does not recommend buying.

NHTSA at nhtsa.gov has rated seats also.

There really is no best seat, the best seat is the one that fits your car, can be installed and used correctly and the one you can afford.

All seats must pass the same federal standards. Do some have nicer features than others, yes they do. But, features does not mean that one is safer than another.

Do I have favorites, I do, but it is based on ease of use and installation. Also in conversation and use by parents has made me consider some better choices than others.

To be honest, I have actually been impressed by the parents on this site that share their opinions. Use some of the input here in selecting your "best" buy. I do not agree all the time, but hey, who agrees all the time anyway?

I agree with the PP though and wouldn't go just by the ratings.

I love britax just because they are easy to install. To me, that is one of the most important features. If a seat is installed incorrectly, it undermines the potential safety of the seat completely.
